grass?

What makes me happy?

Falling in love with random things, like a sunny morning after a good nights sleep,
like falling in love with the stranger you get introduced to at a party and then the next time you see each other you pretend not to know,
like falling in love with the character of the book you’re reading and the feeling of completion when you turn the last page,
like falling in love with smells,
like falling in love with smiles and eyes in the sunlight,

like falling in love with songs that remind you of people you once loved,
like falling in love with the feeling of a new season coming on,
like falling in love with a new favourite dress,

like falling in love with a new band played on repeat,
like falling in love with a person you figure out has so much in common with you,
like falling in love with a new habit or decision that you stick to,
like falling in love with new things despite the bad change,

like falling in love all over again.

Every.

Single.

Day.

Counting down...

Time flies. Real. Fast.

Parang kailan lang, start pa lang ng August and before I knew it, September is only seven days away. I know I've been waiting for September ever since the year 2009 hit Day 1, but when it's practically already here, I'm starting to dread it. Well, maybe because 13 days from now, I'll be 1,095 days away from The Big 3-0. But I'll deal with that later, when it's more imminent.

In the meantime, let us associate el proximo mes with things that make me excited.

Gossip Girl's return to the small screen. I can't wait for this very scandalous show that always leaves me shaking my head in disbelief. I can't wait to see this season's outfits. Blair's outfits. I hope this season would be pure love and no hate because during the first season, GG = LOVE. The 2nd season was not so bad but we don't settle for mediocrity, people. And I expect nothing but the best from GG this season since Chuck's 3rd won't be out til March 2010.

Did a little tinkering with my Polyvore after 48 years...
espero que...
I missed doing Polyvore sets but with the slew of stuff in the Internet, it's easily to forget about some sites. And I've been spending so much time checking me email, Facebook and Tumblr that it leaves me no time for Polyvore.

Also, I've been tripping on dance tunes these days. My LSS as of the moment is the Paradiso Girls' Patron Tequila.

They could easily come across as PCD's rip-off but I think they're different from the PCD. They're similar but different. Gets? Ah basta. One of the members of the Paradiso Girls is Filipina but what got me excited about this group is... Chelsea! Chelsea of The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll. Even though she was pitted against Filipinas, she was still my bet. But then again, she turned out to be the show's real winner since Asia, the show's winner, is nowhere to be seen whereas here she is fulfilling her dreams of being a popstar. Anyway... ayun lang naman.

GTG. Gabi Umaga na.

Book 09-07: A Natural History of the Senses

A book about the five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. It may sound like it's a boring book but it is not. On the contrary, it was a very interesting read. Well, I do like science and watching Discovery Channel to begin with, so the topic of this book really falls within my area of interest.

It would be a tedious task to go over the book and list every bits and facts I've read about so I won't go there. Aside from the facts about our five sense, another bit I loved about this book is that etymology of certain words come up once in a while. As with the origin of the word pupil, the expanding and contracting opening in the iris of the eye, through which light passes to the retina. It came from the Latin pupilla, "a little doll." When the Romans looked into one another's eyes, they saw a doll-like reflection of themselves (A Natural History of the Senses, p232).

V. v. interesting, diba?

Pick Flick: Up

Cute, cute movie. Watched the movie with AB last Thursday. Mommy's treat although she didn't watch it with us kasi hindi pa siya libre. She watched G.I. Joe instead. I originally wanted to watch this in 3D but we have to be practical nowadays so let's stick to the basics, okay?

♥ I love love love the relationship between Carl and Ellie. Regardless of their problems, they have managed to maintain a very loving relationship until their old age. And it's just so heartwarming how Carl loves Ellie so much. I cried when Ellie died. There's just something beautiful about the love shared between old couples...

♥ I also cried when Ellie found out that she can't bear a child.

♥ Russell is the cutest (cartoon) boy ever. But if he were a real kid, I don't think he'd be that cute because obviously, he would be obese. And what's actually scary about it is that whenever my older sister and her fiance eventually have kids, they might look like Russell. Afraid.

♥ I love balloons.

♥ AB said mommy should watch this movie. Para ma-realize niya na 'pag nagtapon siya ng gamit, gagaan ang buhay niya. That's in referral to my mother's habit of hoarding things.

Pick Flick: The Time Traveler's Wife

Watched it. Loved it.

And that's what you call unconditional love.

After running some errands and AB meeting her long-lost friend in Trinoma, we went to see The Time Traveler's Wife in Sta. Lucia, the coolest mall on earth. Tickets are priced at P100 each (vs. other malls' P170) so you couldn't really complain or anything. We decided to watch the movie from the start so we waited and hour to go into the cinema but found out the movie has started already even before the schedule screening time. Baka late lang relo ko.

Why unconditional love, you ask? Let's just say that through the movie, I've been comparing it to the book and have found the movie somewhat lacking. I understand that they can't put everything that's in the book into the movie but how could they erase some things entirely. Like Ingrid, Henry's ex-girlfriend. And the bit that Gomez sort of have an HD towards Clare. I would have liked to see those bits in the movie.

I also think that the movie was too fast-paced. I was wondering if anyone who hasn't read the book could actually get it. In the book, there were like a bazillion chapters before Henry (Eric Bana) and Clare (Rachel McAdams) met for the first under normal circumstances, meaning Henry wasn't time -traveling.

What I loved in the book was how the mood shifted from during the earlier years of their relationship towards the latter part. In the book, I felt that Henry and Clare were very happy during the earlier stages of their relationship and marriage but then towards the end, it all became dismal when they were trying to have a baby and Clare kept having these miscarriages. She had around 5-6 miscarriages in the book that's why Henry decided to get the vasectomy, so as not to put Clare's life in danger. That wasn't shown nor mentioned in the movie. I don't think they captured the dismal parts right on.

I specifically read the book just so by the time the movie comes out, I've already read it and could compare it to book. But I'm thinking that that could be a bad idea. Like with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I watched the movie without reading the book yet and I enjoyed it very much. Well, I enjoyed TTTW, too. That's why I said it's unconditional love. I love it despite the and inspite of...

OMG, did you see Rachel McAdams' spinal column? She's doesn't look emaciated naman but you could see her spinal column poking out of her back. How do you do that? I'm totally envious. I have fats poking through my back.

After the movie, AB said that she appreciated the book cover only after watching the movie. I told her I appreciated the book cover when I first saw the trailer. Before I started reading the book, I see it around the house as AB had been reading it. Honestly, it didn't appeal to me. I happen to gravitate towards books that have cute covers and with TTTW, it's just not "cute." AB recommended that I read the book, so I read it. All the time I was reading it, I still thought it was an ugly cover and- you could say I'm medyo kuning-kuning for this- but I didn't realize what was on the cover. Only then did I realize that those were actually a little girl's feet with a man's clothes and shoes beside her. And it was only then that I appreciated the book cover, only then that I felt that she was waiting for something. Beautiful book cover.

I'm not totally sure about this but I think they changed the ending. It was still a nice ending though. During the last scene when Clare was running over to the clearing to see Henry, it was very much like the scene back when she was a little girl of 6 rushing over to the same spot to meet her friend. It was beautiful but at the same time sad. Clare has been spending her whole life waiting for Henry. Imagine that. Torture.

After all these years that Henry has been dead, Clare still hopes that he would time travel to the now from the time he was still alive. And when that moment happened, you could almost feel Clare's yearning. Beautiful.

I read somewhere in the world wide web that the author, Audrey Niffeneger, believes that "her novel does not depict destiny but rather randomness and meaninglessness." Wow, ah. And deep. Hindi ko ma-dig.

Book 09-06: The Cure for Crushes

"I'm like the human equivalent of E.coli. I repel people."
- Haley Harmony

Cheap entertainment. Got the book for only P75 at Booksale. It was a very fun read. You see, I'm already in my mid-20s (yeah, right, more like late 20s na) and I still get these schoolgirl type of crushes once in a while. So, I thought maybe this book would be fun and it was.

Haley Harmony is a 17-year-old high school senior who decided that her last year in high school would be her TGYML ("the greatest year of my life") but eventually thinks that she could actually be having TWYML ("the worst year of my life"). Well yeah, she could be annoying when she tends to crush on her best friends' boyfriends [#4 on list of things to accomplish while suspended from school: Stop crushing on inappropriate people (accomplish this by not leaving the house)] even when she has her own and man, has she got a terrible case of hypochondria. But the aforementioned were also some of the things that makes her funny. The book's in journal format so you read her thoughts exactly. She starts her entries with a chart stating her Mood, Hair, Health, Horoscope and JT Sightings per day. JT is her best friend's boyfriend with whom she just happens to have a big crush on ever since. I find it funny that for JT Sightings, she sometimes puts irrelevant, but the category never leaves the chart so it is not really irrelevant, right?

"I felt as attractive as a piece of chewed gum on someone's shoe." She just took the words right out of my mouth. Haha. That's why I enjoyed the book very much. There were bits and pieces in here I was able to relate to. I'm just happy that I'm not as unlucky as she is. Anyway, I reckon I'm too old for crushes. Haha. I need to, like, grow up. Whatevs.

Succumb

“ The best way is not to fight it, just go. Don’t be trying all the time to fix things. What you run from only stays with you longer. When you fight something, you only make it stronger. ”
-Chuck Palahniuk

I guess this means that we have to let nature take its course and let it die a natural death.

We're all waiting for something

Long time, no update. I've been busy with both important and unimportant stuff. And the fact that I'm almost always out of the house is the reason why I haven't been updating more often. But my handy dandy journal is very much up-to-date.

As of the moment, I know what I'm waiting for. I'm waiting for the following:
  1. The Time Traveler's Wife (on cinemas already this Wednesday)
  2. My birthday, which is just 20 days away
  3. The season premiere of the Gossip Girl, Chuck and Glee (just found out 3rd season of Chuck won't be out 'til March 2010. Drat.)
  4. 500 Days of Summer on cinemas, torrents or Metrowalk/MCS/Quiapo. Whichever comes first.
  5. Pond's Age Miracle Microdermabrasion Kit. It's out of stock EVERYWHERE. Armida said that this could be just a ploy just so people like me would think that a lot have been buying their stuff but they're really holding their stock.
  6. AD's wedding on October
  7. Christmas season. Just typing down the word Christmas excites me.
  8. My first nephew ever who's going to be born on December.
Shallow, I know. But it gets me through.

Heard mass at the Padre Pio Chapel in Libis last Sunday. St. Pio was a stigmatist and is now known for working miracles on people who asks for his intercession. The small chapel was packed with hopefuls, including us.

I have to take extra good care of my skin. I've noticed a few wrinkles on my forehead, laugh/frown lines, dark spots on my cheeks and the re-emergence of the once gone blackheads and whiteheads. I always made of fun of my mommy who would always seek refuge under an umbrella even if just walking short distances under the sun. Looks like I would have to do the same. Hate ko pa naman ang magpayong. Hassle. And I think I would have to wear sunscreen, too. I hope to find a good sunscreen that wouldn't irritate my oily, sensitive, pigmented and wrinkled skin.

I love Ock Ju-hyun. Even if I know only one song of hers, I am still a fan.

I've always loved Catch even back then when I had no clue what it meant. Now I know what it means and I love it even more.

Pick Flick: And I Love You So

Honestly, I wasn't so keen on watching this movie for 3 reasons:
1. Bea Alonzo
2. Sam Milby
3. I am beginning to hate movies/tv series that get their titles from songs.
But when Armida asked me what movie I would like to watch, I asked her to pick which movie. The choices were between G.I. Joe and And I Love You So. But she already watched the former, so that pretty much left us with the Bea-Sam drama.

I was very skeptical of this movie although it is a Star Cinema production because of the three aforementioned reasons. And they were, like, shamelessly promoting their "love scene." After seeing the Piolo-Angel love scene in Love Me Again (yet another song-based movie title), I think I'd rather pass. I don't want to waste another 2 precious hours of my life. But since it's Armida's treat, what the heck... And I learned that going into a cinema without any expectations could be very advantageous. Turned out the movie was good and it wasn't a waste of time. Although it was a little bit reminiscent of P.S. I Love You (the Hillary Swank movie, not the Sharon-Gabby one).

Derek Ramsay is such an eye candy. In the event that the story isn't that good, I'd say Derek Ramsay is reason enough to sit through the first 20 minutes.

Remember, no one is perfect. If you're perfect, goof off now or you're going to get killed soon. Oliver (Derek Ramsay) is guapo, nice, responsible, sweet, etc. etc. but he dies at a very young age of 24. Life isn't fair. Kill the irresponsible, ugly ones who thin they're God's gift to women first.

In fairness, Bea Alonzo looked good in two-piece swimsuits here. Surprising for someone who's usually pudgy-looking. Hey, I'm not one to judge here but I'm just telling the truth. Anyway, I am actually applauding her for losing the extra weight and think that she should maintain such. She looks sooo much better leaner.

There was this time when she was v. problematic with regard to her finances. Hello!?! Ibenta niya kaya yung 2 Chanel bags niya. D'oh.

I can't help but notice Bea Alonzo's resemblance to Anne Curtis.

They made Bea wear flats all the time. Tall girl, short boys.

Coney Reyes makes a comeback. I miss Coney Reyes. I watched Coney Reyes on Camera religiously when I was a kid.

♥ Towards the end of the movie, the Sam Milby's character says: I waited for you for a long time and it was so worth it. I love you. And Armida was like, "Eh, nasaan yung so?" Haha. Tama nga naman.

Aside from the uber-cheesy lines that can make one cringe, it's a good watch. P170 is still a hefty price to pay for a movie but I think that's the going rate nowadays. I swear they're giving people more reasons to buy pirated DVDs. But in this case, since it's a locally-produced movie, just think that we're helping the local movie industry. Watched it twice- in Shangri-La and Eastwood. Both cinemas were packed. Just goes to show that if it's a nice one, people do watch.

Funny.

Nakakatawa. Super. Mukha akong tanga tumatawang mag-isa.

Pick Flick: The Proposal

I've been waiting for this movie to come out for, like, forever! Since I really like rom-coms and haven't seen a really good one until this one. Despite being a no-brainer-movie as described by a friend, I am not embarrased to admit that I loved it. I happen to like no-brainer movies, thank you.

After class, we were supposed to go to the Colombian Naval training ship chuva pero tinamad at the last minute. So Joji and I just ate lunch. I hurried back home afterwards as AB and I had this moviedate. Free Kopi Roti and movie, care of AB. Yahoo.

♥ Although Sandra Bullock is a good actress and can do both comedies and dramas, I prefer her in rom-coms. I ♥ her, most especially in While You Were Sleeping.

♥ Eye candy Ryan Reynolds is another reason why this movie is a must-see. I can't help but swoon the entire time. How can you not when he's there right in front of you, totally swoonable? Turned out, AB and I weren't alone in the swoon-fest. Yummy daw si Ryan Reynolds sabi nung mga bakla sa likod namin. Haha.

Margaret (Bullock) and Drew (Reynolds) discussed their fake engagement just outside the Immigrations office chuva. I mean, are you supposed to do that? There could be cameras, you know? For something that's supposed to by a hush deal, they're not really being discreet and kept on bickering about it.

Being on your knee on the street isn't exactly discreet, right?

♥ I don't know if they put in hair extensions on Sandra Bullock's hair but I must say that I love it. I envy her hair. How I wish I could have hair like hers. After having long hair for several years now, I'm grown kind of bored with my hair and wanted to cut it short again. But after watching this movie, I'm keeping it long. And also considering on having highlights. Or have it straightened. Or not. Argh.

♥ Who walks on heels that high? While traveling, no less?

♥ Margaret couldn't have picked the most perfect timing to come clean. She could have said it before the wedding. When there no guests yet. Less embarrassment. Less damage. But no. She really to walk down the aisle first and then, confess to her "crime."

♥ Yes, I enjoyed and lurved the movie but I still think the ending is soooooooooper cheesy. I'm sure they could have come up with something better than professing undying love in public, and in the workplace?

♥ All of these happened within 3 days. Unbelievable but well, everything's possible. They were able to fit 3 days into 2 hours. Riiiight?
