Book 09-04: Eat Pray Love

At last, after 48 years, I'm finally done with Eat Pray Love (Elizabeth Gilbert). I struggled with this book and I got thisclose to stopping reading it altogether. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice book. It's just that I find it un poco aburrido. It's a nice book about self-discovery and one's relationship with one's religion/God and since I think I am in a journey of self-discovery and am rediscovering my faith as well, I really pushed myself to finish this one.

I, myself, am in search of this very elusive thing which we refer to as happiness. I think I've grasped what it is and how to achieve it, such as money can't buy you real happiness or that you have to work really hard for it. It's a decision you have to make every day.
Happiness is the consequence of personal effort . You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it. If you don't you will leak away your innate contentment. It's easy enough to pray when you're in distress but continuing to pray even when your crisis has passed is like a sealing process, helping your soul hold tight to its good attainments.
Happiness is not something that comes out of nowhere and I think that the way to it is to appreciate simple and mundane things in life, to be grateful for everything. All of the self-help books and blogs all say that GRATITUDE is the way to happiness. Find at least 3 things you're thankful for everyday and you'll find yourself appreciating life more.

I also remember the priest's sermon last night about prayer. We only pray to God when we need something from Him and forget about Him for the time being we aren't asking for something. Wala lang, ang galing lang ng timing. And in the book it's also said that if we pray for something from God, we have to ask for something specific. We have to give details, specifications and be cautious about what we pray for. In other words (Pussycat Dolls' version), "be careful what you wish for cos you just might get it."

Another theme I liked was Liz's relationship with love. I've never been in love before but I like her realizations about it.
In desperate love, we invent the characters of our partners, demanding that they be what we need of them, and then feeling devastated when they refuse to perform the role we created in the first place.

Addiction is the hallmark of every infatuation-based love story. It all begins when the object of your adoration bestows upon you a heady, hallucinogenic dose of something you never even dared to admit that you wanted -- an emotional speedball, perhaps, of thunderous love and rolling excitement. Soon you start craving that intense attention, with the hungry obsession of any junkie. When the drug is withheld, you promptly turn sick, crazy and depleted.
Correct, diba? I can relate these snippets with idol-fan relationships. As with idols, we have our own perceptions of them since we don't know them personally. But when we meet them and they turn out not to be what or who we thought they were or they fall short of our expectations, we become very disappointed. I guess that's the same with relationships. You should go into it accepting the other person for whom he really is and not what you think he is or would want him to be. As with addictions, I think I am so guilty of that. And I won't expound on that.

Nice naman. Yun nga lang some parts were boring kaya umabot ng 3 months ang pagbabasa ko. En vez de un libro cada dos semanas, un libro cada dos meses, mas o menos. Ayayayay~

I want...

I am so looking forward to this movie...

Why is love intensified by absence?

I so love Rachel McAdams. While most people liked her for her role in The Notebook, I liked her as Regina George. Boo, you whore! Haha

But I want to read the book first before watching. And I still have time since it'll be shown in August pa. But first I have to finish reading Eat Pray Love.

I-correct ba spelling ko? Tanga.

Okay, I just have to vent this out. I am telling myself that I am not going to let this very, very trivial matter affect me.

Someone commented on my long forgotten Livejournal blog on how I spell the word frickin'/fricking:

So, IP Address 122.49.212.35... you're a fucktard and lay off my spelling, por favor.

Okay. I feel better. Why are there so many stupid and ignorant people in this world? Shit happens. You happened.

Nice flowers.

This is how I feel these days.
Dunno.

Tinatamad ako

Because I am too lazy to put my thoughts into a paragraph, I'm doing this post in bullet points. I'm afraid I'm more incoherent than usual so arranging my thoughts would be painful.

There's a first for everything

First time to eat at Pho Hoa and Mama Chit's Coffee House. Scrumptious.
Attended a pre-trial hearing with mommy. Got a debilitating headache after. I swear I wouldn't go to another one unless I'm needed there. And I think I really, really made the right decision of not pursuing the law career.

I love movies
My Fake American Accent

I never really thought I would enjoy this movie since I have these preconceived notions about call centers and call center agents. Well, I did work in a call center for a wee bit and let's just say that I didn't last long. Just a month-long. Hindi ko kinaya ang verbal abuse haha.

Anyway, loved and enjoyed the movie. There's this little twist in the story that I liked so much.

Secret Admirer

Liked it but not so much. It's just funny how this one letter got everything all mixed up. And here it shows how small lies blow out of proportion when it is tried to be covered up with another lie.

I never imagined Kelly Preston did such things back then, haha.

Still waiting
For new episodes of Chuck. Because I miss Chuck so much, I watched the latter episodes of the series. Loves it. Can't wait for the third season and I hope they come up with something more genius so not only will we have a complete 24-episode season but also a fourth one, I hope.

For the day I lose weight. But I reckon that's not going to happen if I don't do anything about it.

For September to come, for personal reasons. Anticipation is half the fun :)

For Saturday... Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, here we come! Hi Shia!

Heartbreaks
No more Sunday Lunch-outs for this family. After AB has been told that she might be having some kind of damage in her kidney, we have to be careful of what we eat. Most especially, AB. Entonces, we can't eat out as much. Bye bye Sunday lunch-outs. Haay...

tumblr's been breaking my heart over and over again. Redundant, I know.

It's breaking my heart how I'm so tamad these days. Alam ko tamad ako usually but I'm more tamad than usual. Hates it.

Get me there.

Libre lang naman ang mangarap ;) Sagarin na.

Waiting for a star to fall

Haven't been able to update for quite awhile. Been "busy" with things.

Watched the Pussycat Dolls concert last Thursday. AD and I went to the venue earlier. We were there around 5:30pm and was surprised that there were many people going in, as early as 5:30. And I thought I was atat.

We ate first. We were supposed to have a pizza slice each. Pero natakaw mata ako and ended up ordering Hungarian Sausage Parmigiana. Turned out, the pizza slice would suffice. But I ate a little of the pasta just so hindi naman sayang. AB arrived around 7pm. Since we thought that we wouldn't find good location if we enter the venue late, we had the pasta to-go. Much to my dismay, we're not allowed to bring in food into the concert. Sadness. May 2 pcs pa naman ng hungarian sausage dun :( Sayang na sayang lang...

The PCD concert started at 9pm. Even if I didn't get to see them up close and they were just about the size of my thumb, I enjoyed the concer verrrry much. I know I don't have to be there in front to be able to enjoy. The only downside to our location was... the people we were with. Ha. My sister and I were actually wondering why there was a totally different crowd of people than the Rihanna-Chris Brown concert. Same price point naman. Anyway, I think the fact that there were many TH people made us enjoy it more.

Now that's one off my list of things to look forward to..

♥♥♥

Just when I thought I could squee with Glee...

I found out that it's not out 'til Fall. Bum to the M - ER! Haha. But really, I thought I've found something to fill the void GG and Chuck has left. Enjoyed this one so much. Very High School Musical but [channeling my inner Elle Woods] funner! Love love love. Most especially with cute guys such as this one

Another reason why I wish it's already September.

♥♥♥

Finally, finished watching Fated to Love You. And I thought it would take me another bazillion light years to finish watching the series as I did It Started with a Kiss. I was only an episode and a half shy from finishing the series and it took me a week to actually finish watching.

I love love love this series although there were some slow and dragging parts. I loved how the situation turned around for them. Chen Xin-yi started out as this "sticky note girl" aka PNB (patay na bata) aka pushover who does everything everyone tells her to do. She never says NO even if she doesn't really want to do it. She always seeks approval from her family, her co-workers, etc. Then he meets Ji Cun Xi, a successful and rich boy from a rich family. Due to a simple twist of fate, they ended up sleeping with each other ONE night which led to Xin Yi's pregnancy. Basta to cut the story short, they were pushed into this relationship because of the baby. Especially, Cun Xi who is at that time madly in love with his girlfriend Anna Shin. But eventually, Cun Xi realizes he has fallen in love with Xin Yi, with or without the child, and wants her back~ by hook or by crook.

I especially loved the part where someone said, "I'm fated to love you." ** squeeee..... ** Yes, I do get giddy with corny lines like that. And I live for corny lines like that. And since we're in the topic of fate...

I watched Serendipity last night.

I'm not one to believe in the concept of destiny and/or fate but I do enjoy watching shows/movies such as this one. I dunno... maybe even if I'm a skeptic, there's this itty-bitty part of me that wishes these things are true. That way, we don't have to look for "the one." We could all just wish that they'd ring our doorbells and come and find us. Ha!

When I first watched this movie eons ago, I didn't like it- like it. It was a so-so movie, I thought. Some kind of bogus for these things to happen, right? But when I watched it again, I realized I love it because:

1) it is set in New York City, baby!
2) it's set during Christmas, my favorite holiday in the frickin' universe.

At, sige na nga... John Cusack. Juno pointed out to me that I tend to crush on geeky-looking guys. Parang may tama siya dun. Haha. I like Shia La Beouf and John Cusack and they play mostly geeky characters in their movies.

Going back to Serendipity... there was this scene where several years after their fateful meeting, they were going on in with their respective lives but at the same time they were still looking for the "signs." For John Cusack's character, it's the the book. For Kate Beckinsale's character, it's the $5-bill. And the Annie Lennox song "Waiting in Vain" was playing in the background. I mean, the song's just so apt for the scene... I don't wanna wait in vain for your love... Even if they were living their own lives, they still wanted to know what might have been. They needed some kind of closure dun sa part na yun. They were waiting for some kind of closure.

"It's just a few seconds. A fragment, really. But it was like,
in that moment,
we were supposed to be together.
That's why I'm here Eve, that's why
I'm going to let destiny
take me where it wants to.
Because when all of this is over,
at least I'll never have to think
about him again.
Let's just hope he's some bald fascist

who picks his nose and wipes it under the car seat."
- Sara, Serendipity

The question is, should I believe in destiny? In signs? Is there even such a thing? I want to believe it to make things so much easier for me (hehe) but it's hard to believe that there's this one person you're fated to be with. Even if you're with someone, you'll be wondering if he's really the one. Eh paano kung tatlo sila? Nyahaha. As with signs, it's easy to put meaning into things. And most often than not, we put these meanings in our favor. I once asked God for a sign and He gave me one. Actually, it was more of an answer to my question. Although I didn't ask for a specific tangible sign. I didn't know what it was but I knew it right away when I heard it. Baka nga you shouldn't ask for butterflies. Haha.

Kaya I dare you destiny/fate, to prove that you are possible and probable in real life. Not just in the movies ;) Woot.

Life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather it is a tapestry of acts that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.

Jai Ho!

I'm so ready to Jai Ho!

Hoping for a weather condition perfect for an open-air concert tonight. Don't let it rain please. It's bad enough that they're giving tickets away in exchange for five (5) 200ml Clear shampoos. That's like 500 frickin' pesos! A thousand pesos cheaper than the same ticket we bought on "promo." I thought that if you buy your tickets earlier, they're supposed to be much cheaper than when you buy them, say, a day before the concert... diba?

Anyhoo... I'm still excited for tonight's concert.

New Moon

LOVES IT.

Here's another thing I have to include in my list of things to anticipate for. Oh RPattz/Edward, you are so smexy! Haha. But I have to say that he looks waaay better when he's not maputla.

Official poster for the new Twilight: New Moon movie due on November 2009. In fairness, ang ganda ng angle ni Jacob. But even if he seems to look guapo and all buffed here, I'm still pro-vampires. I ♥ Edward still. Foreverrrrrrrrr~ because vampires are immortal, right? Haha.

New Moon will be a treat for girls. Just look at the eye candies below...

This could rival the Wolverine movie's hunk fest, haha. These guys wolves look way better than Jacob. Sana isa sa kanila ang ginawang Jacob. Para at least mas kapani-paniwala ang dilemma ni Bella on who to choose- Edward or Jacob.

I think I will watch Twilight today.

Why oh why can I relate?

Weekend Round-up

Still awake. Today is my sister's birthday but she's not here to celebrate with us. This is the second time she's in another country on the day of her birthday. She doesn't know the existence of this blog but I'm still greeting her HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She asked me to do some errands for her. That and her paper on climate change...

♥♥♥

Kamusta naman at 3 ang shampoo namin na Clear?

Buzzer-beaters talaga kami. We bought our PCD concert tickets only yesterday, the last day of the promo. After lunch at Galle, we went to SM Hypermart hoping that they sell concert tickets there. Wala pala. So we ended up buying three 200ml Clear shampoos... we don't really like Clear pa naman. The concert better be good. And I hope it won't rain on the 11th. Anyway... Megamall pa rin pala bagsak namin. Umiwas pa naman kami ng Megamall since we anticipated that looking for a parking space there would be a pain in the arse. To cut the long story short, we got our tickets already... at half the price :)

Wanna share pala my experience when my sister and I bought tickets. So we already bought tickets for the concert and then one of them asked us who will be watching. To which we replied, "Us." Then they informed us that pregnant women can't watch the concert. I just laughed it off but really, I want to break her neck. Haha.

The important thing is ya tenemos las entradas! I'm so excited!

♥♥♥

After lunch at Galle, we went to Saizen. OMG, I ♥ Saizen. I swear it's a money wasteland. If you enter the store without anything in mind to buy, rest assured that you'll end up buying at least one item that you'll later on realized you don't really need. Haha.

I love that store! There are so so so many cute things. The P85 price tag could fool you into thinking everything's cheap but when you think about it, it's actually pretty expensive. Maybe I'd buy cute notebooks for P85 but I wouldn't buy small staplers at the same price. I could get staplers in National at a cheaper price. Basta, keep your guards up and do not end up buying everything that catches your fancy or else...

♥♥♥

I have four new bottles of nail polish ♥
♥♥♥

Saw this magazine shop in Galle that sells old editions of Sweet Valley Twins. Even just the sight of the books made me feel nostalgic. Grabe. But I'm more interested in Sweet Dreams. I hope I could find old Sweet Dreams books. I need a good, cheesy teenybopper love story to squirm to.

Classic.
