shallow val

Lazy Friday so here's part 2 of my update.

THE BOX IS HERE!
AB's balikbayan box has arrived :) Finally, I have my Teen Vogue and many many other magazines, my bilins and chocolates!

We took pictures of the box and us posing with the box- it is, after all, one of AB's milestones: her very first balikbayan box. I also got the owl doll which I highly suspect is for my nephews but since I am in my I-adore-owls phase right now, I kept it for myself. Hehe. Buti na lang hindi pa ako bumibili ng bagong facial wash. Facial washes have been my addiction ever since and I am always to tempted to buy a new one even if I haven't used up the other ones. I'm trying to save which means no unnecessary expenses and see, good things come to those who wait- L'oreal's Go 360 Clean! Sorry mababaw lang talaga ako.

But of course, in the box there is also...

NAIL POLISH OVERLOAD! I ♥ IT. I really want to keep them for myself but they have to go to the business. These are from my sister and aunt abroad. But I also bought some online and they were in the box, too. So without further ado...

I'm in love. I know they say that we should love people not things but I can't help it when there are far more cute and pretty things that can be bought from a store. Gosh, I really want to keep them for myself!!! Especially China Glaze's For Audrey. And the gray one, too. If only I were filthy rich, I'd buy every China Glaze, OPI, Orly, Rescue and other nail polish brands' colors out there. Plus, I really love how they smell.

Thank you, AB! I really hope we could visit her next year which reminds me, I need to get our pictures taken.

Movies #71 and #72: Real Steel, No Other Woman

I wasn't planning on watching Real Steel because I thought it was an action movie. I've been hearing the movie plug on radio, that it's about robots boxing and I never really developed interest in boxing and robots. But after mass last Sunday, A+D asked me if I wanted to come with them to watch Real Steel. In fernez, it was a nice watch and not really about robots boxing. Well, technically it is but what I mean is it was not the main plot of the story. It tells us a lesson that we shouldn't give up easily on our dreams, that if we work hard on it maybe we will still achieve it. One thing though, Hugh Jackman's character didn't really want his son nor he had love for him and wouldn't want anything to do with him until his son showed interest in robot boxing and his son's salvaged robot was actually winning matches- so without the common interest and money, would he still learn to love his son?

Finally, I got to watch this and it didn't disappoint. It's a funny take on an otherwise serious issue- adultery. The acting was good because I am no other woman (or anybody else's woman for that matter) but I actually cried when Anne Curtis' character begged for Derek Ramsay to not leave her. All the while I was crying I was like, "ano ba 'to, hindi naman ako kabit?" So I guess effective ang acting.

There were a few quotable quotes I found funny like when Anne Curtis was lounging in her snakeskin bathing suit and Cristine Reyes asked her if that's her bathing suit or actually her skin. Award.

Oh no I'm way past my self-imposed time limit here on the internet so I would have to bid you adieu.

project 100: the change-up

Now it really really looks like I do nothing except watch TV series and movies all day, everyday. But who cares, ya? What is important is that I get to enjoy my series and movies and still get things done. Malapit na bazaar and I think I really need to speed things up a bit, double-time in other words. Anyway, since yesterday we were supposed to meet up with a cousin who was going to do a cooking demo around lunch time, I hitched a ride with AD at 7am. I could have followed later but I was thinking if I had to be by lunchtime, I had to leave home around 10 so better that I go with her then I'll find some place to pass the time away. So I was there in Starbucks for two whole hours munching on ham & cheese croissant and making my mocha frap last for my entire stay while reading The Help. Jologs, haha. Okay ang haba ng intro ko ha. Anyway, we went to Rockwell for my cousin's demo then back to my sister's office. Watched a movie (again, for free! thanks to the handy-dandy compli pass c/o my sister's office) while waiting for her get off work.

I originally wanted to watch The Other Woman but my compli hindi pa pwede for it. But it's okay because I really wanted to watch The Change-Up ever since I saw the trailer.

{source}
Basically, it's Freaky Friday only PG-13 version (or is it R18 with cussing-overload and nude scenes) and much funnier. Close friends Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) and Dave (Jason Bateman) exchange bodies after they wished they had each other's lives. Of course you think how on earth could such a thing happen then realize that this is a movie where anything could happen and then sit there and just enjoy albeit it's absurdity. Well the premise is that they're both quasi tired of the lives they're living and then the exchange happened and they get to see their own lives from a different perspective. Seeing their lives from another perspective gave them a chance to re-evaluate their lives and try to improve on the areas that needs improvement. Ending: everybody happy.

Generally, it is a feel-good movie. I say generally because every time Olivia Wilde steps in the scene, I automatically don't feel good about myself haha. Kidding aside, Olivia Wilde is so so so beautiful. She is the only reason why I watch House. I swear the world is not fair. Why can't every girl have a waist that tiny? I want her perfect little eyebrows!

Do you think it's weird if I actually find Jason Bateman hotter than Ryan Reynolds? Jason Bateman was unknown to me before Hancock and even when I saw him on Hancock I didn't know who he was but that time I already liked what I saw ;) Ryan Reynolds I already find hot but after seeing Green Lantern, wis na. Maybe it's the wonky eye or maybe it's how he always wears tight-fit clothes. So ayun I ♥ Jason Bateman. Will download Horrible Bosses already because he is also in it ;)

But you know I think we all know that,
in life doesn't always turn out exactly how you planned it.
Sometimes, just sometimes, turns out better.

So true. I just hope that what I am doing now is where I'm really meant to be.

project 100: one day

A movie you shouldn't watch if you're contemplating on jumping off the 15th floor of your building.

Lakwatsa day with A because it was my birthday last Tuesday. I originally wanted to watch Zombadings; A said that her sister suggested that we watch One Day. Her sister said it was good and that we would relate to the movie. Being a non-fan of Anne Hathaway, I never planned on watching this on my own. But since it was recommended by someone and A  really wanted to watch, so we did.
♥ Twenty years. Two people. Twenty years was how much time two people wasted. Ever since that night of their college graduation, Emma and Dexter have been very good friends. Obviously, Emma has been crushing on Dex and even if she really wanted him, being friends with him is the next best thing. [Vanessa Williams' Save the Best for Last playing in the background... in my mind. lol] Dexter goes out into the world, finds fame and immerses himself in worldly pleasures; Emma still living the life of a "starving artist," waitressing for the meantime. Fast forward several years after, the tables have been turned. Dexter now a has-been; Emma a successful author. After 20 years, they finally meet eye-to-eye but it wasn't meant to last so it happened.

♥ Remember how I always cannot fathom the idea of liking someone for far too long? Seems that the idea doesn't exist only in Korean series. Apparently, it's a universal thing. How tragic to not get over someone for an immensely long period of time. How fortunate I am that out-of-sight-out-of-mind works for me. I don't know what took Dexter that long to see Emma. Did he think he was too good for her? Or that Emma deserves someone much, much better?

♥ I get annoyed every time Dexter gets into trouble or feels shitty about something and then she calls Emma to dump on his negative shizz. So I really liked this scene when Emma told Dexter that she loves him but she doesn't really like him as of the moment. Attagirl :)

♥ They finally got together after 20 years but this tragic thing happened. Maybe it was the universe's way of saying "nek nek niyo." Or was this the work of The Adjustment Bureau [that movie with Matt Damon & Emily Blunt]. Haha. Labo-labo na. So I was thinking maybe they really weren't meant to be together. Every time they seem to be going in that direction, fate/destiny says, "Oh no you don't!" and something breaks them apart.

♥ After the movie, I asked A which part of the movie did her sister exactly thought we could relate to. I mean I don't have a guy bestfriend I've been harboring romantic feelings for and I am not waiting on some guy to fall in love with me. I've had crushes but I think I haven't fallen in love yet which I believe is to my advantage. A's sister said she didn't say that we would relate to Emma, she said that she hopes that A and I find someone to fall in love with. I am not sure if I like that. Parang I'm happy with the status quo, ayoko na nang magulo, diba?
I love it! ☺☺☺☺☺ Well yeah it was depressing but it was a nice movie. Hooray for not having guy best friends!

project 100: transformers: dark of the moon

After my failed attempt to open an account with a certain bank (I forgot to bring the complete requirements), I decided to treat myself and go to the nearest mall and watch Transformers: Dark of the Moon. I was actually planning to delay it further but since time is of the essence here- they might stop showing it in the cinemas- so it's a go. Well, yes I can still watch it on DVD or HBO but I want to watch it in the cinema- big screen, Dolby Digital sound system. I think I should have not waited too long to watch it cos the malls/ establishments reserve their better-smelling cinemas for the newer movies. But I guess it was better seeing it in a ratty, musty cinema than never at all.

I was first in the cinema and I was thinking "Am I the only person in the planet who hasn't watched this? Ang loser ko naman." I was actually scared because I was literally the only person inside the cinema. Then I grew more scared when two men entered the cinema and sat right behind me. Pero mukha naman pala silang mag-jowa so I didn't mind them much.

My thoughts:

♦ Oh my Shia! He's not the cutest but I swear I superduper like him! He's dorky and he wears those flannel shirts- exactly just my type. And what's even better- he's a geek but he knows how to kick ass, or maybe he just knows how to run really, reaaaally fast.

Eeep. What a cutie! But these freakin' geeks (ie. Sam Witwicky, Chuck Bartowski and John Cusack in most of his movies) always get the leggy, gorgeous girls which means even with geeks, I don't stand a chance. I can't remember much of Transformers 1 and 2 and Dark of the Moon shows an angry Sam. Only 3 months of unemployment, fresh out of college pa and in an ailing economy- he shouldn't be that frustrated. But I guess he's mayabang so his ego is hurting. But still, he's so adorkable.

♦ Rosie Whitington- Hutley. Or Rosie Huntington- Whiteley. Whatever her name is... is stunningly beautiful. But her pouty lips were distracting me.

Amazing how she can run like there's no tomorrow in those heels, in jeans that tight and still look perfectly put together nary a strand astray. Samantalang kami binaha lang ang bahay, hindi pa kami naghakot, eh mukhang basahan na. Pero in fairness, nadumihan naman ang white blazer niya.

But although she is gorgeous, I find Megan Fox's appeal different. Although we know that the movie can do without a girl (a hot one at that), but the boys need to have their eye candy.

♦ It's the end of the world and aliens are taking over the world but still all Sam can think about is his girlfriend. How cheesy, no? He even chose her over saving the world. Even if his hot girlfriend dies... after saving the world thrice, I'm sure he'll land another hottie in no time.

♦ Is it just me or this installment is medyo magulo? Maybe it's the chaos and destruction all around. There were also times when I can't tell an Autobot from a Decepticon. I had to keep reminding myself that the Autobots are the colorful, sleek cars/vehicles and the gray, drab-looking ones are the enemies. Maybe it's just me, actually. I wasn't able to fully concentrate on the movie because I was thinking of other matters like firing this certain employee.

♦ The moral of the story: Wag makisawsaw sa hindi mo away. The warring factions of Cybertron made Earth their battlefield and who suffered the most? Humans. Buti sana kung meron silang superpowers which could help the human race (actually, just the population of Washington DC) rebuild what was destroyed. Ang kaya lang naman nilang gawin eh mag-transform from an automobile to a robot and vice-versa. Wala rin naman silang maraming pera :(

Love it. Though the first Transformers movie still is the best among the three, in my opinion. I don't know how else they could make another sequel now that the Decepticon leader has been destroyed. And without Shia La Beouf? Let's see.

project 100: the last song, adjustment bureau

The Last Song
{image here}
Caught the first 20 minutes of this on TV one time and thought it was interesting enough to make me download the movie.

My thoughts:
  • It was once fun watching Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana. I thought she got it figured out and wouldn't go down Britney's or Lindsay's path which was self-destruct? What happened? What's with the pout that actually reminds me of a rat snout. Seriously, what's with the pout (relative of the kissy duck face)?
  • Based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, which is slightly obvious because it has all the elements of a Nicholas Sparks love story: the story set near a beach (yung beach na may tala-talahib), mega-lampungan courtesy of the bida actors and last but not the least, someone with a terminal disease (kung sino man siya basta meron).
  • It was okay. Nothing really special.
 The Adjustment Bureau
{image here}
I don't what made me want to watch this movie so bad. I'm sure it wasn't Matt Damon, so maybe it was Emily Blunt. I liked her in The Devil Wears Prada and I think her English accent is lovely. And when I first saw its trailer, I thought the love angle was promising ;)

My thoughts:
  • So talaga bang wala tayong free will? Everything is predetemined and we only decisions we make are those trivial ones such as choosing between Coke and Pepsi? But I guess it would be moot because we live our lives anyway, no matter what. We wouldn't really know if my decision to write this entry was my own decision or was actually predetermined. Ginugulo lang ni Sarte at kung sinu-sino pang philosophers ang utak natin. According to Nietzsche, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."  And crazy because Nietzsche went crazy. Bawal kasi masyado nag-iisip.
  • Higher risks, higher returns. After all the chases and shiznits, they were finally "allowed" to be together. So does that mean that if we really want something we should go to the ends of the earth pursuing it? Which brings us back to the topic of free will vs determinism- when Matt Damon's character pursued Emily Blunt albeit warnings that they shouldn't be together, how does he know for sure that that wasn't part of his determined path?
  • It was okay. A little boring though.
Yay! Nakadalawa uli ako :D Though I really really want to see Transformers and hopefully I can still catch it on cinemas. For sure wala nang 3D but I guess 2D will suffice. Also wanna watch the final Harry Potter movie but would need to watch the one before this.

GTG. Will be flyering early tomorrow.

project 100: monte carlo

Playing hooky from Rex Manning BIG TIME. The mind is willing but the flesh is weak. After that trip from the airport, went with AD to her office which is conveniently located in the mall. In fairness to me, I did some market research also, so there was quasi-work related and not purely play. After lunch, I did another round of market research then decided to watch Monte Carlo because they won't let me in Transformers in the middle of showing.

You might wonder why I spent P160 on a movie starring Selena Gomez whom I expressed non-like of... You see, I just realized that there's some kind of love-hate relationship here. I am annoyed at her because of her character in Wizards of Waverly Place, but then again I used to watch it religiously. I think her head's too big for her body and she has too much hair, but I am actually envious of her tresses. And I really do think she is beautiful. And thin. *sigh*

{source}
So what do I think about Monte Carlo?
  • Paris is breathtaking! Every time I see the Eiffel Tower in movies or on TV, I get all giddy and I know I just had to see it in person.
  • I love the Gossip Girl connection- it's Blair and Juliet! I know I just admitted that I semi-like Selena Gomez but even if I didn't, Leighton Meester is reason enough. J'adore Leighton Meester ♥ I love that we have the same wavy hair. Suddenly, I appreciated my medyo-wavy-medyo-curly hair but the similarity ends there... oh how I wish I could have waist that tiny. Frak.
  • Saw on tumblr that the plot is pretty familiar. Remember The Lizzie McGuire Movie? It's pretty much the same, actually. It's a good thing I wasn't able to watch the Lizzie McGuire movie and I do think that Monte Carlo is way better than that (and better wardrobe, imo).
  • Cuteness galore, especially that Riley. Man, the dimples are to die for and I don't even like dimples. The accent- LIKE! But does his shirt always has to be unbuttoned?
  • I will not delve into the impossibility that two, unrelated people look exactly alike. But if they were raised in very disparate backgrounds, wouldn't it be all too obvious?
  • And it gets all cheesy when they were found out, or actually they outed themselves, and then they make this speech about wanting to help the poor and it doesn't really matter on whose neck the bazillion necklace is. The real Cordelia wants them arrested but aside from her, no one in the crowd of megauberrich people thinks so. It's just that in the real world, these megauberrich people who have $6million (kahit $3million lang nga eh) to spare on one necklace are just as snooty as Cordelia was.
I enjoyed it so I guess it was a well-spent P160. I'm actually a sucker for movies like Monte Carlo~ sorry but mental age is at the range of 18-24.

My current LSS. Just when Selena Gomez says that "she's no beauty queen, she's just beautiful her," does she realize she just said that the ugly ones are even uglier? Okay fine, beauty is in the eye of the beholder na nga.

Update on my Project 100 Movies this 2011: I have seen 42 movies already. Only 58 movies more. Although I was in the same number at this time last year, this year looks promising ;)

project 100: green lantern, waiting for forever, departures, something borrowed, unknown

{source}
Green Lantern
Free movie at buti na lang free siya. This movie sucked big time. Hindi ko type ang story, hindi ko type ang costume at hindi ko type and characters. In other words, HINDI KO SIYA TYPE. I expected a lot from this movie because it's a Marvel Comics adaptation and it's Ryan Reynolds. But even Ryan Reynolds didn't make this experience worthwhile- I thought he looked funny. Does he have a lazy eye?

And oh, did you see Blake Lively's waist (or it's non-existence)? Kainis no?

{source}
Departures
This one is very, very nice. I liked it. After reading its synopsis online, I thought it would be one of those serious drama movies typical of award-winning movies. Well, it's still drama but sprinkled with comedy which made the movie even more charming.
Daigo gets a job as a coffiner (or coffineer?), a job that the Japanese considers "dirty." It's beautiful how the movie has shown Daigo's transitioned from someone who initially just did it for the money to someone who loved what we was doing in spite of what other people think.

{source}
Unknown
It's Liam Neeson! With whom I had a little crush on when he played Qui Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace. I loved and enjoyed Taken so I also gave Unknown a chance. Aside from romantic comedies and teenybopper films, the other genre I like is suspense-mystery-thrillers. Like in Unknown, I initially thought there was this huge conspiracy which included his wife, that the wife had planned all this. I was in awe when it was revealed later on that she was not really her wife and they are just assassins on a cover because I didn't see that coming. I like to get ahead of movie plots and try to guess how it's gonna end and most of the time, I get it right.

{source}
Waiting for Forever
Waited for this for forever!

About this boy who non-stalks this girl who has made a difference in his life. He doesn't stalk nor follow her. Apparently, he just goes where she is. I like the line of thinking here.

Tom Sturridge annoys me but I don't if it's him or the character he played. Had Rachel Bilson not been in this movie, I might have stopped watching altogether. It's a cute and sweet but kinda creepy love story. I guess it's nice and beautiful in an okay kind of way.

Tom Sturridge. His pouty lips annoy me but they look good on Angelina though.
She's so pretty! She's not drop-dead gorgeous as other Hollywood actresses are and she's small and cute but I guess that is her appeal.
The movie is actually a bit sad. Here is Tom Sturridge with his pyjamas and his happy-go-lucky, tumbleweed-in-a-desert attitude which most people frown upon. He lived most of his life on the mantra that "Everything's peachy," then he realizes one day that not everything is peachy- that scene broke my heart.
"I have enough of you in my head to last forever." Awww...
If you ask me, there’s a moment in everybody’s life when you are helpless, just helpless with hope and trust, and then something happens… something too big to understand, and then everything changes forever.

{source}
Something Borrowed
I am conflicted whether to read a book before I go see the movie adaptation or vice versa. Though I still loved both.
They tweaked it a little bit because instead of Hillary, it was Ethan. Even if in the book I hoped it would be Rachel and Dex in the end, in the movie I hoped that it would be Rachel and Ethan in the end. Well, it's just that in the book, it was clear that Ethan doesn't like Rachel in that way; whereas in the movie, he did. And Dex in the book was more likable and Dex in the movie isn't as charming and sweet and adorable. They should have gone with a Rachel + Ethan ending. Ohwell.

project 100: x-men: first class

Before I proceed with my movie, I will first relate how my trip to the DFA went. First, I am not very proud that we went there through special arrangements but at the same time, I'm glad I've gotten this passport renewal over and done with. Though we have a casualty here: my ego. Two instances. One was I was asked if I was married and two, that moment after I had my picture taken and saw what an effin' fugly picture that was. Bruised self-image and all, we got what we came in for- our passports! Will deal with said self-image later.

After our DFA trip, I was supposed to accompany V to divi but we were too lethargic to push through with the original plan and it was already 12 in the afternoon- a bit late to go divi tripping- since it is advisable to start early. So we just went with AD and enjoyed her privilege- a complimentary pass for 2 to X-Men: First Class.

I grew up watching X-Men. My playmates and I wished it were already 8pm every Friday so we could watch our favorite cartoon. We even assigned who plays who among us. I was assigned to play Professor X and I actually dreaded that. The cartoon played down Professor X's character and maybe as children, we only wanted those mutants with physical abilities. If I had known how crucial the role the Professor plays, I would've played my role proudly and without any resentment that they let me play the role nung kalbo at pilay.

Musings on X-Men: First Class:

♣ I watched just the cartoon and never read the comic book so I didn't have an idea as to the beginnings of all this. As I said earlier, I was never aware of how powerful Professor X was and the role he played.

It was also refreshing to see how he was during his younger days and that he was actually best friends with Mystique. I just knew him as this righteous old, bald man on his wheelchair. I wonder how the old people were like during their younger days... but we would never know, right? Kung meron man silang kalokohan I'm sure hindi naman nila ipapangalandakan sa mga anak at apo yun. Pwera na lang siguro kung sila'y mga tanga at kalahati.

♣ Having watched this also clarified things as to how they became who they are and the circumstances surrounding them. The mutants were divided into two: those who use their abilities for the good and those who want to punish the human race for seeing them in a bad light. I noticed that the two leaders, Professor X/Charles and Magneto/Erik, came from disparate backgrounds which somehow affected as to how they would use their special abilities on.

I always know they were friends but I don't know what caused the falling out. First Class showed that. Plus why Magneto wears that helmet and how he acquired it. Ahlavet. Ang galing how they put the pieces together, seamlessly.

♣ Mabilis ang karma. Just look at Beast/Hank. He likes Raven but not Mystique and tells her that to her face. He injects himself with some sort of serum that would permanently hide the physical manifestations of their mutations (to Hank, his big, beastly feet), which actually did the opposite. After dissing Raven/Mystique's mutant blue form, he transforms into a blue creature himself. I therefore conclude- matakot ka sa karma. Sayang, cute pa naman siya.

♣ I've always wondered how some people can be so heartless. Sometimes I understand that you want to take revenge but after that, what? And I think they should've understood why the humans wanted to blow them up after after they blew up the ship. The humans didn't know they did that to thwart a possible Third World War if they hadn't did that. Oh well, sabi naman nila once pumatay ka na ng tao, madali na lang next time.

♣ There are two things that could break a friendship: pera o babae/lalaki. With Charles and Erik's, babae ang naging dahilan. It was touching how Erik immediately ran to Charles's side when that bullet hit Charles's spine. Bros before ho's, dude! But no, he chose the girl. tse. Sorry but this time I think Prof X should've also understood his friend and where he's coming from. First of all, matanda na si Erik and his anger and you can't get rid of his issues just like that.

I enjoyed the movie. More than Wolverine and the other previous X-Men movies. Maybe because it showed how things became the way they are now, like I've always wondered how Prof X and Magneto's friendship and falling out happened among other things. Although I was also looking for the mutants that were familiar to me like Storm and Rogue. I can't wait for the next installment.

project 100: thor

spontaneous movie day-out with A. originally planned to stay in the shop the entire day, even forgone the field trip with ic friends. just went to buy some stuff with AD and AC for a wee bit so i didn't even bother putting on my eyebrows and my handy-dandy imperfection eraser aka ang pambura ko ng mukha aka bareminerals funda. so when A sent me a text asking if i was free this afternoon, i hesitated at first. but since i last saw her two months ago, i decided to go meet up with her. hence, our movie date with thor.

no expectations whatsoever. which is a good thing, actually.

i liked it. it's a mishmash of everything- romance, drama, action, a bit of comedy. plus, i think the cast is perfect! chris hemsworth did a freakin' awesome job as thor. those piercing blue eyes... oh my god. here's where my matronic self comes in- those abs. haha. natalie portman is adorable as well. normally, i see her in serious roles and this one made me see her in a different light. the world really isn't fair. i mean, what can this woman not do- beautiful, talented and intelligent. not fair. and who wouldn't love kat dennings? she's so kyoot!!! i was laughing on that part when jane foster and professor erik were discussing about the einstein-rosen bridge and darcy (kat dennings) asked what's that. the professor wondered that if she's supposedly a science major, how come she doesn't know what the einstein-rosen bridge is. then darcy states that she is a political science major. sorry na kung mababaw ako pero natawa ako ng sobra dito.

totally worth your 180 so go watch it in the cinemas. i am not really a fan of 3D chuva but if you wanna go for full thor experience, go watch it in 3D. though it won't require that anymore to enjoy it. i'm so excited for the avengers!

project 100: holy week movie marathon

little fockers
weird but fun. i remember watching the first- meet the parents - and i was laughing my lungs out. that was a few years back- movietime with the t-party girls at rp. good times ☺
anyhoo, i expected this movie to be more about the kids as the title suggests (at least to me). but no, the kids aren't the focal point in this story. they're just there. that's all. it's still about jack's trust issues with his son-in-law, greg.
and oh, am i the only person who thinks jessica alba looks weird? was flipping on old magazines and saw her pictures- i never really found her pretty, even during her dark angel days. most especially her dark angel days.
wall street 2: money never sleeps
shia la beouf, i ♥ you! the only reason why i want to watch this is because of shia. first-name-basis. yes, we're closed like dut.
second movie in my marathon and looks like we have a recurring theme here- trust. totally not on purpose, just a coincidence although i really do have trust issues. bah.
very socially relevant being situated in a time of recession. i didn't really get this one because 1) i wasn't really paying much attention to it as i was also doing other things at the same time, or 2) i don't really get this banker stuff and because of reason #1, i didn't get it all the more since i wasn't paying attention. but still, shia's such a cutie. so excited for transformers 3 here.

the roommate
leighton meester! yay!
although i must admit i didn't expect much from this which is a good thing, i reckon. i really can't say much about this except that leighton is gorgeous, even if portraying a psycho. and man, i am envious of the waist. why don't i have a waist? so unfair. well, technically i have a waist but it's concaved. it should be convexed. fml.
and oh, there's also minka kelly there. not really a big fan of her. before i saw her on 500 days of summer, i didn't even know her. yes they do look alike but i like blair leighton because of the association with gossip girl and blair waldorf and her wardrobe.

little manhattan
been wanting to watch this since i-can't-even-remember-when. and so i got to dl the movie last week and voila~ the rest, as they say, is history blah blah blah.
what a cute story. gabe, 10, falls in love with rosemary. but it wasn't that easy. i guess love never is. gabe's words. i can't believe that would be the words of a ten year old. i don't even know if i can come up with words like that myself. as of now, i am still conflicted whether or not i would want to be in love cos i don't know i can handle the heartbreak if ever my heart gets broken. an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, right?
i hope this movie gets a part 2- gabe and rosemary, ten years after and it will be rosemary who's totally crushing on gabe and he wouldn't even give her the light of day.

It's amazing how quickly time moves. Just yesterday, I thought I loved her, but now, I don't even care about her at all.

wish i could say the same...

project 100: the out-of-towners, chaperone, morning glory

yay for movie marathon mondays!

the out-of-towners
hilarious. not originally in my list but came across this one while channel surfing; caught this one on hbo ☺ a middle-aged couple from ohio goes to new york where they were met with a serious of unfortunate events.
funny. as in i was cracking up every now and then.
i love this movie. i love steve martin.

the chaperone
in the tradition of wrestlers making their way into the big screen, a cutesie patootsie movie. it was nice and i enjoyed watching it but the same, old plot. the rock in the game plan and the tooth fairy.
ray gets out of prison after seven years and tries to rekindle his relationship with his daughter. it was entertaining, though i would never believe that a twelve-year-old girl could drive a big bus.
eh pelikula nga naman. lahat posible ;)

morning glory
rachel mcadams!
even if this movie sucked, i would've loved it still because of rachel mcadams. but it didn't suck. it was actually good. a nice surprise, actually, since i was kinda expecting it to be bad.
after being fired from a local network, becky fuller (mcadams) was hired as executive prod of an ailing morning show. she gave it time and effort and believed that it they can make it work.
this movie made me believe that everyone can have a happy ending.

project 100: how do you know, never let me go, catch me... i'm in love

and even with a busy schedule, i was able to add three more titles to my list. hooray for me! there's still chance that i can hit target because it's the holy week soon. i know i know, holy week is supposed to be spent repenting for our sins, but it's the only rest we can have, 100% guilt-free! i'm not yet sure if it'll be spent watching movies cos i kinda plan on having a dawson's creek marathon. i miss my childhood/teenage years. i miss the good ol' days when all i have to worry about is passing my subjects.

how do you know
i expected a lot from this because of the stellar cast. i should've known better than to keep my expectations high. but i mean, who could go wrong with a reese witherspoon movie? tapos may paul rudd pa? diba? oh well.

rom-coms are my cup of tea but how do you know didn't deliver. though it's not really that bad, i just expected a lot. me and my high expectations. *sigh* plus, it was already 1am when i started watching and i was also working on an order so i wasn't actually paying much attention to it. but i don't know if i would give it one more chance. so little time, so many movies.

never let me go
another movie recommended by tumblr people.
so far, so good. movies referred by tumblr people are no-fail. 500 days of summer. flipped. and now, never let me go. that's why i'm always in the look out for recommendations from them.
another factor which made me want to watch this is carey mulligan. i love her in an education. and she kinda looks like jen lindley/michelle williams and i am a fan of jen lindley and her beauty (as compared to joey potter. eeyuck). and andrew garfield's in it, too. a little scrawny but will do. and the role kinda calls for his scrawniness. haha. as with kiera knightley, i don't like her much. don't ask me, i don't know why.
can i just say that this is one of the most depressing movies i've seen as of late? albeit the surrounding circumstances, it is a beautiful love story. depressing but beautiful, still.

catch me... i'm in love
finally. sorry naman at masyado akong fan ng sarah geronimo movies. haha. well, it took this long for me to watch it cos i was waiting for jaime's free tickets and i was bringing our househelp as a 'thank you' for her help.

it was okay. well, being john lloyd and sarah's past two movies as my peg, okay na na okay siya. though in my opinion, mas feasible ang sarah + gerald tandem more than a sarah + john lloyd. but i think her movies with john lloyd worked (most esp. the first one) because she really had a crush on him. she was crushing on him like a schoolgirl for real. which is cute ☺

my favorite image from this movie is the dream sequence. sarah has this recurring dream where she was in red and everyone else was wearing black. i love the effect. matteo guiducelli was funny. i never knew he could be funny. i like it when actors (esp. cute ones, though i don't really find him cute) aren't afraid to make themselves look silly on camera. sarah's talking voice isn't as sing-song-y as it was. a lot of things i liked about this movie.

there weren't as many cons. i can only remember two things: the storyline was too fast-paced that i think it didn't develop as smoothly; in other words, bara-bara, and that once again, they got the movie title from a song. In fairness, no show ang wigs ng star cinema.

recreation therapy... check. not to mention i finished pretty little liar's episode 14 to 22. watched it staggardly, of course. kung dati naiinis ako sa show na ito, ngayon mas nae-enjoy ko siya with all the cliffhangers and whodunits and whathaveyous. plus, i really really really find mr. fitz cute and i get giddy over spencer and toby.

project 100: life as we know it

finally got to squeeze in a movie in my busy-busyhan schedule.

first saw this movie, at least the first few minutes of it, last January at AD's. since I dozed off to la-la-land in the first few minutes of it, I really thought it was boring. glad I gave it a second chance ☺

when their friends peter and alison died in a car crash, holly (katherine heigl) and messer (josh duhamel) were left with the guardianship of their goddaughter, sophie. these two hasn't gotten along ever since; hence, the set-up that guardianship calls seems impossible. but they gave it a try. and as what usually happens in rom-com movies, they fall in love albeit their mutual dislike for each other.

i'm a sucker for rom-coms so automatically, i like it. plus, sophie's such a cutie.
is it just me or do most of katherine heigl's (recent) movies require her to play the role of control freaks? such as 27 dresses, the ugly truth and this movie. no violent reaction here though cos i think she portrays it just perfectly.
the only thing that seems so sudden in this movie was the development of messer's feelings towards holly. he was obviously not attracted to her and when he sees that there's someone who likes holly, all of a sudden he decides to like her. what's up with that? i just wish that they made messer show even just a few hints that he's attracted to her before the story goes into fast forward. but it's okay cos they ended up together. yay!
i really wanna learn how to bake cupcakes cos i'm seriously considering it as an alternate career. seriously.
holly describes her cake shop as a small store chuvachenes and this reminds me of myself when people ask me what i do for a living and i tell them i have this small nail salon (which i intend to make big. soon)

it was a fun watch and again here goes that theme about life and how it happens when you're planning something else. makes me want to give up planning for good. ha. my youngest sister highly recommended that i watch this and i think i know why- she can totally relate to it. having kids totally changed her life. oh well.

project 100: first love

Original title: Sing Lek Lek. Which reminds me of wenekleklek heehee ☺ Homay! This one is long overdue since I watched it last week and the sentiments aren't that fresh anymore. Sayang. I've been either busy or pretending to be busy (aka busy-busyhan).

First heard of Mario Maurer thru Ycel. She just came back from her Thailand vacay that time. It sparked my interest and I even tried looking for downloadable torrents of his movie but didn't find any on my suking torrent source. Then just last month, my niece asked if I already saw First Love, a Thai movie and mentioned Maurer. She said she'll give me a copy but it took eons for her to do so, so I took matter in my own hands and got myself a copy.

Watching this made my week and even till now, I haven't gotten over it yet. Highly relatable. Back when I was in high school. Back when I was in college. Hell, even now that I am in my late 20s, I can still relate to it. Story of my life. Bow.
As the movie trailer claims, most of the human population has experienced crushing on someone, admiring him or her from afar. Nam is highly relatable. Many of us would do anything to make our object of affection notice us. Like Nam, I also:
  1. did everything in my power to make myself more presentable to the p of i (person of interest). grow my hair long, cut it short, spend money on products, have my hair straightened, lose weight, occasionally put on eyeliner, etc etc etc. anything that i think would make me look cute. haha! conscious kung conscious. super laugh trip talaga nung maghilod hanggang pumuti si nam.
  2. rampa! haha. nam and friends would go wherever they think chone would be. observing the p of i- where he hangs out, who his friends are. be where he is so you could at least get a glimpse of his cute face. omg, college days come to mind! i remember stealing glances at my p of i- looking over my carrel desk at the lib so i could see him. usually i do this discreetly but i would occasionally deliberately walk where he could see me, hoping that he might give me the time of day. hay.
  3. made decisions with the p of i in mind. nam and friends didn't really want to join the drama club but since chone is on the production, they joined. how many times have i done this? countless! we eat here because this is where he'll pass by after his class. we pass this way so we could pass by his room. hay kaloka.
and fast forward to almost a decade after graduating from college, it's still pretty much the same. but really, it's quite an experience. tiring and sometimes agonizing but it sure feels gooood when you feel those butterflies in your stomach, which makes the scene below so familiar~

Hindi lang pala sa Pilipinas na ang konsepto ng maganda ay maputi. Maybe in most Southeast Asian countries, being fair-skinned is considered beautiful. Nam before...

and Nam after all the "improvements"

IMO, I liked her better 'before.'

Si Chone ay napakapogi!!! >insert eardrum-shattering squeal here< No, hindi kita aagawan ng crush, ycel. I'm just stating a fact. Chone (Mario Maurer) is superduper cute. He's cute and NOT an ass. How many cute boys out there know they are good-looking and still not be jerks? Even fugly boys are jerks. But we are well aware that Chone is a figment of the imagination.

But Mario Maurer is real. And I don't care if he's an ass or not because he's for viewing purposes only. When I say for viewing purposes, viewing purposes lang kasi siya as boses palaka. But you know what, I think I can live with that. Pogi na boses palaka o mukhang palaka na boses pogi? Take your pick ;)

Napatunayan natin sa movie na ito na 'daig ng maagap ng masipag.' Aksyon agad!

Albeit a romcom, I was crying my eyes out for quite awhile. No, I didn't just tear up, but I didn't hagulgol naman. Somewhere in between lang naman. But still, it felt as if I was in that scene, as if it was my heart being broken. Which, again, makes me lucky I haven't gone through major heartbreaks. Pang ano lang ako, pa-crush crush lang, pa-sipat sipat. Pag nagka-girlfriend, maiinis lang ng unti... ganun lang.

I still don't get it why people torture themselves. Nam likes Chone. Chone likes Nam. Though it's not clear to me if Chone knows that Nam likes him. And the best thing about it is he liked her even before she was 'pretty.' Omaygas, I was squirming on my seat while watching yung mga kilig moments. And just when we think how creepy is it of Nam to keep that button with Chone's blood, we see Chone's scrapbook filled with Nam's photos- yun ang creepy. Anyway, I think perspective lang yan. If Nam doesn't like Chone, that would be creepy. But if she does, then that would go through the roof sa kilig factor. Just like when you hitch a ride in someone's car and he tells you that the song on the radio is for you and then Stephen Speaks' Passenger Seat plays- nakakakilig if you like him but creepy and awkward when you don't.

Loves it! So so so so much.. to the moon and back. Although the ending was corny. It's not the destination, it's the journey. Bwahaha.  Definitely a must-see

Project 100: My Valentine Girls

Guilty pleasure time! Lakwatsa day today with BFF Armida. I already texted her yesterday if we could watch this movie and she asked if this was the one with Eugene Domingo in it. Thank God Eugene Domingo is in it or else I would watch it alone. No, I won't be caught dead watching a baduy movie ALONE. At least I need an accomplice. A fall guy. Haha. We had lunch in Shang and since Shangri-la cinemas don't show baduy movies (except John Lloyd movies which, in my opinion, aren't baduy), we walked all the way to Megamall to watch My Valentine Girls. OMG, I'm such a fangirl (which A doesn't know. guilty pleasure nga eh)

A's MTRCB card already expired but thanks to Citibank's subsidized movie passes. But the movie cost 180 bucks... quite expensive to think that this is in Megamall and a local, baduy movie (and not even John Lloyd film). But what the heck... Three stories in one movie, kinda like Shake Rattle & Roll, cursi version.

  1. In the first story, Soulmates, there were inconsistencies such as how was Rhian able to hail and ride a cab when she herself is supposedly a "ghost." Why do things pass right through Richard but not Rhian?
  2. Also in Soulmates, can someone please explain how one date to Enchanted Kingdom make two people soul mates? I mean, they were not even humans when their 'date' happened. Eto ang hindi ko magets sa movies, how could spending one day or night kahit sabihin pang one whole day yan eh magfa-fall in love truly, madly, deeply na kayo with each other?
  3. In Soulmates still. Don't you find it funny that their houses are empty. Their rooms are empty. Hell, even their closets are empty. Mas mukha pang bahay ang ospital.
  4. In the second story BBF... I may be a bit biased because I'm a Solenn fan. Gosh, I still can't believe I'm admitting that here. Anyway, it's your run-of-the-mill best friends who are secretly in love with each other story. Wala man lang a little something extra. Though this story could have been much better without Lovi Poe in it. Kelangan ba talagang ganun magsalita? Sheesh.
  5. A asked why does short skirts look okay on Rhian but looks skimpy and slutty on Lovi?
  6. Still on BBF. That shooting incident seemed off. Do they really have to include that there. They could've done without it, imo. At kung nasa tama kang ulirat, you wouldn't somewhere there's a fight. Kung anu-t-ano pa man, that scene's just plain stupid.
  7. The last story, Gunaw, was the redeeming factor of the trilogy. Just as I thought I already grew tired of Eugene Domingo's acting, she proved me wrong. A and I were laughing our heads off. Wait, I think we were laughing our heads off during that chanting scene. Kung matupad nga naman ang wish mo, ano? Kinabog ng scene na ito ang isang episode ng Kristine dahil sa dami ng half-naked boys!
  8. Gunaw reminded me of the Walking Dead but with horrendous prosthetic because their zombies didn't look like zombies at all. They looked like burnt victims. And not that I'm taking this seriously but their zombies are pretty fast moving. Meron pa kamong nagma-marathon!
  9. Here's the shocker: in the middle of the third story, the screen went black and the lights were turned on. Then I saw security guards going inside the cinema. I was panicking already cos I thought there was some sort of emergency or whatever tapos the people started screaming. Turned out the actors paid a visit! There was Richard Gutierrez, Solenn Heusaff and Lovi Poe and that tiyanak there in front of the cinema. They just wanted to thank everyone who's watching and that we tell our friends to watch also. Galing ng style ha.
  10. In fairness to GMA Films, their film title didn't come from a song. They could have easily named it Suddenly It's Magic or I Feel So Free It's Like A Fantasy. Well, it's not really creative and original but still A for effort. Though ang pangit ng musical scoring (parang galing sa ilalim ng lupa ang music) at ng editing (transition from one scene to another wasn't smooth, kumbaga sa cellphone call, choppy). Sorry, but my heart still belongs to Star Cinema when it comes to local rom-coms.
Now we know why the movie is more expensive- may special appearance kasi ng mga artista. By the way, speaking of artistas, I saw Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero in Shangri-la. Also Gabby Eigenmann. Then Richard G, Solenn and Lovi in the cinema.

Project 100: The Social Network, Eat Pray Love

Buhayin natin ang Movie Marathon Mondays! Time management is all it takes. Naks, yabang akala mo kung sinong magaling sa time management. Anyway, today was a mix of work and some recreation therapy.

Eat Pray Love
Started watching last Friday but had to leave in the middle because I accompanied mommy to church. At least I only have an hour or so of what I thought was a dragging movie. But I always finish what I start so here it is...

First of all, I was also not that into the book. I really thought she was selfish. She wanted out of her marriage and the reason was they grew apart. They grew apart. Not a valid reason, in my honest opinion. Why not take a sabbatical from your marriage instead? Wait, is there such a thing? There should be!

Now, in comparison with the book, andaming kulang. Before I thought it's better to read the book first before you watch the movie. Dapat ata watch the movie first before you read the book. I read The Time Traveler's Wife and Eat Pray Love first and I found their movies lacking. And in the case of P.S. I Love You, I watched the movie first then read the book and appreciated the book more. Or maybe it's just really the book or the movie.

The Social Network
I've heard so much buzz about this one. A lot of raves, actually.

Three things:
  1. Mark Zuckerberg is an ass if the the movie portrayal of him is accurate. He bashes his ex-girlfriend on the internet and he betrays his best friend who helped him put up this billion-dollar enterprise. Just an observation ha, he's very typical of geeks who make it big- they want to seek revenge on that girl who rejected them or the jocks who bullied them or just anyone who they thought didn't pay attention to them. But even with all that money, he still is miserable and couldn't get Erica Albright back. That is if this story is accurate.
  2. What was Erica Albright thinking? Why does she have a Facebook account? Why!?!?! Though I think the ending was brilliant. Loved it. Imagine, 6 billion dollars yet you couldn't get that one thing you want?
  3. I really feel for the best friend. I don't really care about the Winklevoss. Eduardo deserves so much better than that betrayal. If there's anything Mark could do for his friend who helped him start up all this Facebook thing, it is to protect the interest of his friend.
Brilliant. Though it's sad that it is a true story. It really happened. Kaya nga sabi nila do not get into a business with friends if you want to keep them.
