Love Love Lovely Runner

It's been a while since Lovely Runner's last episode and I have still not moved on from that beauty of a drama. I tell you my attachment to that drama is on another level because it served as my comfort drama while I was counting the days before I come home. Lovely Runner would end on the same day I came back in the country- dito ko na napanuod the final episode.

I wasn't really expecting that much from this drama. AC and I started watching Lovely Runner  right after we were done watching Wedding Impossible, which was one helluva disappointment of a drama. That kdrama was hard to watch. I am actually shocked that I did finish watching it- maybe I was somewhat hoping for the drama's redemption towards the end, eh waley. I did finish it largely because of the male lead (ML). Anyway, back to LR. I think I did enjoy episode 1, but the clincher was episode 2's ending. Absolutely didn't see that one coming and I was delighted and surprised.

I rate this kdrama 100/10. I like it that much. Dramas usually start strong but come mid episodes, it slightly gets boring then either picks up or totally bombs towards the end. BUT THIS DRAMA DOESN'T HAVE ANY OF THAT. IT WAS SO GOOD THROUGH AND THROUGH. After watching the end of episode 2, I thought that I need to rewatch episode 1. I must rewatch episode 1 and 2 before next week's episode 3 and 4.  Ah basta I was hooked.

The story was really good. SO GOOD. Of course I also have some questions, but with these dramas I practice suspension of disbelief. Plus, it's a fantasy drama. Everything is possible.

Another contributing factor to LR's beauty is the chemistry between the ML and female lead (FL). Tapos nagre-release pa sila ng behind-the-scenes right after, OMG I totally am shipping these two IRL. Before, I couldn't get CLOY's fans who wanted Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin to end up together, but now I totally get it. I want them to end up together for realzzzzz. Cos if not, why does Byeon Woo-seok stare at Kim Hye-yoon like that?? WHY? If he isn't crushing on her for real, looking at her like that should be illegal. Honestly, I hope he's not paasa. If ever they are dating, I think they wouldn't admit it cos the drama's done and doing so might affect their future projects. Meydo different case with the CLOY couple because those two were actually of marrying age or at least I feel they're in that age where they want to marry and start a family. HY and WS, I feel, still have a lot going for them and cannot be tied to a love team. ALTHOUGH I DO WANT THEM TO MAKE A REMAKE OF GOONG. The leads' chemistry, I tell you, is off the charts. It's been a while since I've kicked the air because of kilig and I've been kicking the air every episode. This has got to be my favorite drama of 2024 and definitely one of my faves of all time.

Walang itatapon dito sa drama na 'to. Even the OST is good. Just listening to the songs remind you of specific scenes. I remember when I was still in NY and I guess just finished watching episode 2, I had I Think I Did on repeat for hours. The last time I did that was with John Legend's Everybody Knows. Every song in that soundtrack is just lovely, plus the original songs performed by the fictional band, Eclipse- perfection ;) WS's vocals were also a surprise. I am so in love with both his speaking and singing voice. Too bad I wasn't able to secure a ticket to his fan meet :( Funny how I previously thought that fan meets are a waste of one's money cos fan meets usually last for an hour (?) tapos same price as concert tickets? Well, I still do think fan meets are a waste of money but I was willing to waste my money just to see WS in person and hear him sing Sonaki live. Tapos kinanta niya pa I Think I Did! So I'm sad that I didn't get tickets to his fan meet. Boohoo. Dagdag na lang natin sa aking SK budget this September.

Kim Hye-yoon was a discovery for me. I actually watched Extraordinary You last year but didn't get to finish it because I didn't like the story that much. Watched it because of Rowoon though, LOL. Naumay siguro ako with HY's too much aegyo, I dunno. But here in LR, for me, mas litaw yung acting prowess niya. And the boys said that it was her who helped them get into their characters. I feel bad that she isn't getting that much attention. I love WS but he has overshadowed our dear HY. Sabi naman ng ate ko expected naman kasi who watches romcoms/kdramas? Women, mostly. So it's just expected that the MLs would get more attention. Don't we all want our own Sunjaes, yes? I just hope that HY also gets the recognition due her. Sana bumaha din ng scripts for future projects for her.

Back to the drama... it is a romcom but when you think about it, it's actually a sad kdrama most of the time. How many times did we see Sunjae die? It was heart-wrenching every time Im Sol would deny her feelings and hurt Sunjae because she thought that would stop him from dying. And it was also agonizing for our dear Sol to erase herself from Sunjae's life- and to live for 15 years doing that on purpose. And that is why we need that one hour of fluff for the ending. I am happy with that ending. I hope they also get that ending in real life. With each other. Please. Hihi.

Love love love this drama to death. I do hope I get to watch another one like this this year. I also hope I get to watch more good projects from these two actors, whether individually or together (but I really hope they do work on another project together... Goong remake please. Or Full House. Please).

So let's finish this post now so I have enough time to lurk in Twitter and get into the subeom vortex before I go to sleep. Good night!

I'm in Love ♥♥♥

Breaking my blogging hiatus just to say that I AM IN LOVE WITH LOVELY RUNNER! This series has got me squeeing and swooning the entire duration of the drama and even after (much much after) that. I am just waiting for the final two episodes but MAAAAN! I AM SO OVER THE MOON with this show ♥♥♥

Escapism Therapy 2022: Second Quarter

Ang bagal ko na sobra. Super daming distraction. Haha. Baliktad na. Trabaho na ang distraction at kdrama na ang priority. For the second quarter of this year, just finished three kdramas and one US series.

Twenty-Five Twenty-One

💜💜💜💜💜

Super cute story. Well, it started out as a cute teenybopper romance but later on became more serious as they got older and entered new stages in their lives. These days I live for feel-good romcom dramas but if you knew me way baaaack then, I used to like tragic love stories. Hindi naman ako natutuwa na hindi sila nagkakatuluyan o may namamatay, but there's something beautiful in tragic love stories- yung F na F mo sakit, cathartic baga.

I loved the relationships among the characters- between Hee-do and Yi-jin, between Yu-rim and Ji-woong, Hee-do and Yu-rim, and their friendship in general.

I loved how Hee-do and Yu-rim's relationship has evolved from fan and idol turned rivals turned close friends. I liked Yu-rim and Ji-woong's relationship has blossomed over time- in fair kay kuya, matiyaga siya. And last but not the least- Hee-do and Yi-jin's relationship >> spoiler alert << may not have stood the test if time, but theirs was beautiful while it lasted. Although I think sayang yung friendship nila, hence the question whether best/good friends should cross that line.

Beautiful Gong-shim

💜💜💜

It started out good but towards the end, medyo 'meh' na siya.

This kdrama has 20 episodes and I feel there were many scenes they could have done without. This drama would be totally fine with just the usual 16 episodes.

My favorite and most abhorred characters were, surprisingly, not the leads. Gongshim was endearing at first, but started to annoy me towards the end kasi wala lang annoying lang siya. Anyway... my favorite character is Jun-su. Umpisa pa lang he's been this very kind and down-to-earth chaebol, very different from his parents. I felt sorry for him that his halmone has been treating him with disregard just because she feels he's the reason why Jun-pyo vanished- malay ba ng bata! I was actually conflicted, I know I should root for the male lead but I really really want our second lead, Jun-su, to get the girl. And also, been wishing and hoping that he doesn't turn to the dark side- which he almost did, buti na lang natauhan.

My most abhorred character is not the evil uncle, actually. Eto ay si Gongmi, Gongshim's older sister. Ang inggitera, kaloka! I mean, why would you be okay with turning your sister's room into a walk-in closet and have her sleep in it? Kadiri. Also, she tried to "steal" Jun-su away from Gongshim. Buti na lang si kuya hindi mabilis masilaw ng patpat, hahaha 😂 She apologized to Jun-su, but not to her sister. Walang character development- selfish pa rin hanggang sa huli. Kung ako lang, she doesn't deserve a happy ending although masyado naman atang harsh 'yun so she doesn't deserve Jun-su na lang.

Shooting Stars

💜💜💜💜

Nakakilig. And you know me, I live for kilig. Always. I can always suspend disbelief when it comes to kilig.

When I started watching this kdrama, I didn't even know who are the actors in it. Lo and behold, it's this guapo boy 💗

and one of my fave female leads- Lee Sungkyung💗

I found out from google that cutie male lead was also the cutie sungit boy from Penthouse. His cuteness wasn't enough to make me watch the second and third seasons of Penthouse- too nega and, actually, too Probinsyano-ish. LOL. So anyway, eto nagtagpo na kami ulit and in better circumstances- in a romcom!

Soooo, ayun I liked this drama most especially the first half of it. Mas kinikilig talaga ako when it's a love-hate relationship between the leads 😁 Giddiness galore!

Just wondering if big stars really get into relationships with employees or staff in their agency, or at least find them interesting. Feeling ko hindi.

My takeaway from this drama is the same as my takeaway from Record of Youth- mahirap mag-date ng artista, a top star at that. Actually in their case, it's easier. Oh Han-byeol has been going to Tae-sung's house even before, but now kasi there's guilt factor. But still, it's easier. They can always say it's PR-related. Dramas like this one is for us delulus, LOL.We should know lang when to snap out of it ;)

Only three dramas- THREE! I promise to make bawi this third quarter before the Christmas season kicks in this September. As of press time (naks!), I'm almost done with Kiss Sixth Sense and am currently watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo which is still ongoing. What is productivity? 😅

Escapism Therapy 2022: First Quarter

At the rate that I'm going, I will be able to finish just 12 kdramas this 2022. It's actually weird that I don't get to watch and finish a lot of kdramas cos I actually have a lot of time on my hands. Anyway, here's the run-down on my kdramas for the first quarter of 2022 ☺

Our Beloved Summer

💜💜💜💜

What made me watch this drama was the fact that the OST includes Kim Taehyung's song Christmas Tree, and only for that reason at the start. Well, I did enjoy it albeit it's a bit slow. I find Choi Ung's character endearing although I bet in the real world, nakakainis siya kasi ang tamad niya. Lels. And we sort of share the same dream, and-

Galawang tamad. Haha. I understand where Choi Ung's character is coming from. I mean, he knows what he wants to do with his life and where he is right now in his life is already enough for him. It was actually easy for him because things kind of came to him easily (or so we thought). To him, everything he needs and wants in life he already has and he can't ask for anything more... until ze girl broke up with him.

Yeon-soo, on the other hand, didn't have it easy. She was raised by her grandma alone after both her parents died. From then on, she had to strive for everything she wanted to have/achieve. Her bitchesa attitude was a front and also some kind of a defense mechanism. When she broke up with Choi Ung, I feel it wasn't only because she didn't want to be the hadlang to Choi Ung's dreams or career, but I guess she also took it against him that he had it easy.

So this is a story of enemies turned lovers turned enemies turned lovers again, and I guess I live for this kdrama trope which explains why I liked it. And also that I get to hear V's voice every now and then.

So what's my key takeaway from this drama? Perspective is everything.

The King's Affection

💜💜

Eto naman sa dramang 'to, main consideration for watching was the male lead. I first watched Rowoon in She Would Never Know and I instantly took a liking to this adorable boy. I actually started watching this drama last last year and only got to finish it this March. Ang bagal ng story and there's not much chemistry going on between them. Mas may chemistry kami. Chareng 😆

I blame this drama for my slow start this year. Not sure if it's entirely due to the story or because I really am not fond of sageuks. And omg these sageuks- so masalimuot! I can't fathom why people would want to be queen or king when it would cost one his or her peace of mind. I'd rather be a commoner living in the mountains, planting camote for my own consumption.

Key takeaway from this drama- wala. Hahaha!

Hospital Playlist

💜💜💜💜

Another drama I started watching August of last year, but someone in our household contracted COVID and the hospital scenes gave me anxiety so I had to stop watching. Only picked up where I left of last month and I'm glad I did because I enjoyed the drama ☺

My favorite character is Ik-jun but my favorite storyline is Jeong-won and Gyeo-ul's. Kasi nga I live for kilig!

Etong mga doktor na 'to ambabait! I've been in hospital quite often these days and medyo isang doctor pa lang ang medyo ganyan sa kanila haha. Cute din siya ;) Haha. So anyway, what's enjoyable about this drama is the camaraderie among the main characters, akin to Reply 1988 (same writer!). Siguro what I didn't like lang was how this drama reminded me of my own health, LOL. Will be watching Hospital Playlist 2 soon where I will be anticipating more conflicts. Hindi puedeng happy-happy all the time, diba?

Key takeaway from this drama- I should take care of my health if I want to enjoy life. Mahal magkasakit and hindi all the time pogi ang doctor mo (kung yun lang ang consolation mo sa pagkaka-ospital).

Business Proposal

💜💜💜💜

This one is still actually ongoing- two more episodes to watch, but I guess I can write something about it now. This drama was not in my To Watch list but when nurses in the hospital recommended that I watch it, I immediately picked it up and here we are now, just waiting for the last two episodes. Maganda naman siya, not 'ANG GANDA!' levels pero it was very entertaining. Aside from the enemies-turned-lovers trope, contract marriages/relationships is another trope I like which explains why I'm enjoying it.

And oh, if you want to enjoy this story, you have to suspend your disbelief. Sige, make-up daw and wig, but if you keep on meeting up and more often, at close range, one would eventually put two and two together. Boses pa lang. And Ha-ri has two noticeable moles on her face... I mean, wala man lang 'you look/sound familiar' from Tae-moo? So ayun nga, suspension of disbelief ay kailangan.

Fun and nakakakilig to watch, definitely my cup of tea ☺ And may I add, our lead guy fell for the lead girl first. Excited to watch episodes 11 and 12 later.

Key takeaway from this drama- Yellow umbrellas bring good luck in love. Makabili na nga ng yellow na payong 😂

So there, one drama for every month. Ang bagal considering I sort of have all the time in world right now. I think Twitter is the culprit (and BTS!) since I spend so much time on Twitter, nakiki-Maritess on election-related news and stuff. I actually started watching Flower of Evil while waiting for Business Proposal episodes and promising naman. I wish to be delighted and surprised by this drama. On second thought, baka surprised lang pala at hindi delighted. Hehehe.

Escapism Therapy: Imitation

💜💜💜💜💜

It's always the dramas I said I wasn't interested in watching. Always.

That was the case with Reply 1997 and 1988, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, Hotel de Luna, Vincenzo and now Imitation. Unknown actors (at least to me) and when I first read the synopsis, it didn't tickle my fancy. I don't know what made me actually start the series but I'm glad I did.

Actually, I started watching episode 1 of Imitation right before going to sleep and I fell asleep just a few minutes into the drama. So I almost dropped it, dismissing it as not too interesting. But I gave it another try and so begins my crush on newfound eye candy, Lee Jun-young (around episode 3, actually). The second time around, right before the first episode was done I was hooked.

In the beginning, what really got me into the drama was the hate-to-love trope (my favorite 😁) and the undeniable onscreen chemistry between our leads. 'Nung umpisa I didn't even find Ryoc attractive and I actually found Lee Ma-ha too pasty (in other words, mukhang siyang mumu sa isang Korean movie kaysa isang Kpop idol), I just like the story so much and where I think it's heading. Ryoc's appeal came later na lang, as mentioned before around episode 3 of the drama. Until the end, I found Ma-ha mumu-looking and also what's with the hair? LOL. I hope they made her hair short na lang instead of putting extensions because it made her hair look like a helmet, eh wala naman bearing sa kwento yung length ng hair niya. Her helmet-ish hair and pasty appearance bothered me. But their love team, I still 'shipped!

Which leads me to... idols' secret relationships. Idols are said to be prohibited from getting into romantic relationships and while others may say that is preposterous, I think I kind of get where their managers and agencies are coming from. If the drama's portrayal of idols in relationships is accurate ha. For example, we see Ryoc as someone very hardworking and focused on his career, both in music and in film, but when he starts developing feelings for Ma-ha and eventually get into a secret relationship with her, we see him so out of focus. I know it's ridiculous for these youngsters not to fall in love with equally good-looking humans which I think are abundant in the world they live in, pero ayun nga they have to keep their eye on the prize. For them to withstand all those grueling hours of training, I guess they really liked being idols. And I guess they know naman what they're getting into. I'm not saying that's right, but business is business nga diba? And these talent agencies shelled out lots of moolah to train these talents for years! And in the drama, once Ryoc sort of realizes his feelings or at least like for Ma-ha, he loses his focus. He suddenly spaces out therefore missing out on instructions and he breaks rules he once called out his bandmates for breaking (ie. dating). Although I'm not sure if allowing them to date out in the open will "fix" that.

Loved this drama albeit the anti-climactic ending which was too cheesy for me. And I doubt if this is feasible in real life- kpop idols rebelling against the system.

I hope I see more dramas from Lee Jun-young ♥ And I also hope they make favorite webtoons into live action dramas, too!

Recreation Therapy: Kdramas That Kept Me Entertained While in Lockdown 2021

Here's my latest list of K-dramas I've recently finished watching 😊

  1. How to Be Thirty
  2. Vincenzo
  3. So I Married an Anti-Fan
  4. Law School
  5. Please Don't Date Him
Lima lang pala. I thought the number's so much more than that. Maybe because I'm also watching some ongoing dramas like Nevertheless and Imitation (which is my current favorite OMG 😍) and there are other dramas I still haven't gotten myself to finish watching just yet like Oh My Ladylord, Doom at Your Service and You are Beautiful

Anyway, here are my non-review reviews.

How to Be Thirty

💜
Although I am already pushing frakkin' forty and not thirty, I sort of felt that maybe this drama's something I could relate to. Eh hindi. But then this ajumma's also a sucker for noona romances so ayan.

I was enjoying it at first kilig kilig eme but in the middle my interest kind of waned. And the drama's only 20 minutes, mind you, so that's not a good thing. Maybe the fact that it was only 20 minutes long was also the reason why cos there wasn't much room for character development? I don't know. I almost didn't finish the drama but I sort of wanted to know if our Female Lead will end up with the director. I think she did (I'm not too sure, LOL).

Law School

💜💜💜
I'm not sure if this Kdrama's based or at least inspired by How to Get Away With Murder, but I assume it is based on the theme song. I almost didn't watch this cos I'm trying to steer clear of anything stressful.

I've always liked murder mysteries, whodunits but also I noticed that I get sick more often when I watch too much of it. So especially now that we're in a pandemic, I try to watch only feel-good shows. I enjoyed this show but at the same I think I didn't understand most of what's going on- Korean legal jargon!

Ryu Hye-young's (Sol A) character here was very different from her role in Reply 1988 and for that I think she's a good actress. Also, I didn't recognize Kim Bum right away! Sabi ko lang he looks familiar so I must have seen him in another drama, but boy was I shocked when I found out it was him. Last drama of his I watched was That Winter, the Wind Blows. That boy didn't age a bit. It's beyond me how these thirtysomethings could play high school or college students. Well, law school students naman na pala sila but still!

I may not have liked-liked this drama but I liked it well enough to watch it as soon as new episodes come out every week.

Please Don't Date Him

💜💜💜
Sooo I watched this one because of Lee Jun-young, my newest eye candy (thanks to Imitation). I may not have liked the storyline that much but I definitely liked this scene

Hahaha!

So ajumma of me. But seriously, I really thought he was older than his age so ayun medyo no guilt if I stan him. But upon checking, he's only 24 years old and was born the same year as Jungkook (my son in another lifetime). So paano ba 'yan? Anywaaaay, he's the main reason why I watched this drama.

It was okay. If it weren't for Lee Jun-young maybe I would've not finished it but he's in it and that made the drama a whole lot more interesting.

So I Married an Anti-Fan

💜💜💜💜
I really liked this drama but I felt that there was not much chemistry between the leads, hence the four hearts. Although I like Sooyoung, I'm not sure if she's female lead material. I loved her in Run On and I actually was more interested in her storyline in that drama more than the leads. I wasn't sold on the male lead, Choi Tae-joon, at first but eventually he kind of grows on you. So I liked them as actors per se but as a love team, medyo nakulangan ako. Mas kinilig pa ako sa webtoon which I'm not yet done reading :D

A little backstory- I tried watching the Chinese film adaptation of the webtoon around 2019 and I didn't finish it. Hindi ko siya masyado maintindihan at that time. Parang patche-patche, ang pangit ng flow. Then come 2020 lockdown, I fell into the webtoon rabbit hole and I came across the webtoon version (from which the movie was adapted from) and loved it. I'm not yet done with the whole thing yet, it's currently ongoing on the webtoon app. But anyway, the webtoon's what made me want to watch the Korean miniseries version. This year I tried watching the Chinese movie version again and while I did finish the movie this time, hindi ko pa rin siya bet. The Kdrama was a whole lot better even if I found the pairing a bit lacking.

As I was saying, the Kdrama version had little pockets of kilig but it was not enough, if you know what I mean.

I want to watch another Sooyoung drama whether she's the lead or not. I like her the way I liked Lee Sung-kyung when I watched Cheese in the Trap. Kahit kontrabida siya dun, I can't seem to get myself to not like her kahit sobrang bwiset yung character niya. I hope Sooyoung gets a role which can catapult her into Hallyu status.

Vincenzo

💜💜💜💜💜
Saved the best for last 😉 Enjoyed this drama tremendously! It was a mix of everything- action, drama, comedy with love story on the side. And to think I almost didn't watch it because, 1) I'm not really a Song Joong-ki fan so kung yung come on niya for others was it was starring SJK, hindi epek sa akin, and 2) I don't really like action as in full-on action dramas, napapagod ako. Thanks to AD's recommendation, I watched it and I loved it.

As with all dramas, a bit of suspension of disbelief is needed. I mean, even if Vincenzo is legit mafia, he can't single-handedly take on South Korean gangsters. Or that Babel, with all its money and power, would actually hire more reliable and more ruthless henchmen to do their dirty deed. And if Babel really wanted Vincenzo gone, they could do it at a snap of a finger. But of course, bida natin siya so hindi puede.

I loved how this drama makes you feel a rollercoaster of emotions. Matatawa ka, maiinis ka, mae-excite ka at kung anu-ano pa in just a span of an hour. The actors did a great job portraying their roles. Hong Cha-young's was sort of the comic relief with the other residents of Geumga Plaza. The Geumga Plaza residents actually reminded me of OTWOL's tenement peeps. Ang galing din ni Ok Taecyeon- how he portrayed a seemingly clumsy, mej shushunga-shunga na newbie lawyer at first to a psychotic CEO capable of so many atrocities mid-series. And omigosh that Choi Myeonghee- isa pang halang ang kaluluwa. I thought at first she was one of the good guys- apparently, not.

Out of all the characters in the series, my favorite was Jang Han-seo, Jang Han-seok/Jun-woo's baby brother. Ang galing ng character development niya! At first I didn't want to trust him, I felt as if he was just trying to appeal to Vincenzo to save his ass or to get rid of his evil stepbrother for good but towards the end he has redeemed himself.

So ayun na nga, I enjoyed this drama and I hope I find another series na ganitong level. It doesn't have to be action pero sana yung something that I'll look forward to. I actually have Imitation but tomorrow is the series finale. I'm definitely posting about that kdrama soon!

Escapism Therapy: Run On, She Would Never Know

So.... ECQ na naman tayo. Which also means more time for Kdramas, webtoons and movies- uninterrupted. I just wish that the government would really do something to solve this pandemic or at least curb the rise in cases. Baka naman vacation mode din ang mga hitad. Hay.

Anyway, before I start with another Kdrama, I want to blog about the last two dramas I watched- Run On and She Would Never Know- both I really enjoyed.

Run On

I picked this drama because my peeps at dramabeans liked it. We're some kind of on the same Kdrama wavelength and this time, that proves it again. I was actually a little iffy because I sort of don't like Shin Se-kyung- nakatatak pa rin sa akin yung ginawa niya bilang bestfriend ni My Little Bride a bazillion years ago. LOL. But I've learned to set aside my biases and not not watch a drama or a movie just because I dislike the actor for I could miss out on good ones.

I enjoyed this drama. Most dramas get dragging in the middle, but this one was steady lang. Ki Seon-gyeom and Oh Mi-joo's relationship started out as friends although we knew from the start that both already have feelings for each other but since they're unsure whether the other reciprocates this feeling, landi-landian lang sila ng slight. Hahaha. So eventually they get together and towards the end, Seon-gyeom's father became the MH (malaking hadlang) in the story. But I guess hindi siya ganun kalaking hadlang dahil the Seon-gyeom's mother supports the relationship (or whatever makes her son happy) and the girl who Seon-gyeom's father wants to marry him with is actually in a "developing" relationship.

This girl who was supposed to enter this fixed marriage with Seon-gyeom is CEO Seo Dan-a, who just happens to be in a "situation" with university student Lee Young-hwa. I was more deeply invested in this subplot and find it more interesting. Mas may kilig factor. Must be the noona romance eme. Although I am not sure how big the age gap is. Feeling ko naman hindi ganun kalaki. Or maybe I just like it when the guy pursues the girl ardently? In this drama, the Best Kdrama Boyfriend Award goes to Young-hwa.

Both storylines are our usual langit-ka-at-lupa-ako eme. Not very obv kasi maputi sila parehas. Kung dito sa Pinas ang setting, maputi yung mayaman tapos moreno/a yung mahirap. The disparity is not that noticeable.

One of my favorite characters was CEO Seo's secretary. I like his walang personalan, trabaho lang attitude. He does what is asked of him efficiently, he's loyal to his boss AND he always has his boss's back. So I liked that he gets his own love story in the end ☺

Another thing I liked about the drama was it made me a bit nostalgic. At least in the beginning where Seon-gyeom was still in the national track team- it reminded me of my high school days when I was part of my batch's track team.

It was a nice drama. I finished it quickly and with only a few breaks in between episodes (which is uncommon these days where I'm a little ADHD with my dramas when story gets a bit slow).

She Would Never Know

I got into this drama thinking it's a rom-com. And boy, was I ever wrong. Drama ito, besh. Drama! Almost dropped this one because I wanted to steer clear of dramas. Gusto ko ng feel-good, light, nakakakilig rom-coms. What made me stay was another awardee of The Best Kdrama Boyfriend Award

Our cutie Hyun-seung started working in Klavuu because of Song-ah. He started out as an intern/trainee under Song-ah's wing. Best foot forward si Kuya siempre pakitang-gilas kay Ate at siguro inspired na rin, LOL. He finds out that Song-ah's dating Jae-woon, who he eventually finds out was dating and was set to marry the CEO's sister. I actually didn't like what Hyun-seung did when he exposed Jae-woon to Song-ah, but maybe it was a necessary evil most especially when Jae-woon clearly wasn't going to end things with Song-ah soon or at least tell her that he's getting married to another woman.

In this drama, we see that persistence wins. And maybe consistency na rin. Eventually, Hyun-seung wins the girl and proceeds to be one of the Best Boyfriend in Kdramaland.

A few hitches every now and then but at the end it's all good. I liked that Song-ah still went to Europe for the job despite Hyun-seung's pleading for her to stay. For me kasi at least she couldn't put this one on him in the future. I feel that if she didn't take that Europe stint and she, somehow, becomes dissatisfied with her life, she might blame it on Hyun-seung.

Majority of the story, it was the guy wooing after our female lead. All his decisions were all made with her in consideration. Siguro nga medyo unhealthy 'yun, pina-inog niya ang mundo niya kay ate girl. And maybe that's where Song-ah's frustration is coming from- yung hindi man lang nagagalit si kuya kahit obvious na may problema. All throughout the drama, we know that Hyun-seung likes Song-ah, but we're not sure if Song-ah really likes our male lead or it's just convenient for her because he's always there for her. So what I also liked about this drama was that towards the end, we saw Song-ah also putting an effort to salvage or rekindle the relationship. Well, alam naman natin na unting udyok lang eh bibigay naman si Hyun-seung, but at least it was her who made the first move.

Moral of the story: Que será, será. Kung kayo, kayo.

-o-

Ayan, because of dramas like these distorted na naman ang ating standards when it comes to relationships. Not that I'll get in one soon, or ever. Ha. Basta ayun lang yung mga ganyang lalaki tulad ni Hyun-seung at Young-hwa- they've set the (unrealistic) bar too high. At least alam nating unrealistic. Pero libre lang naman mangarap. Haha.

Another thing I observed was the issue of homesexuality in both dramas. Nagulat lang ako because before these two dramas, I can't think or at least remember any drama that has tackled the issue. And both dramas addressed the issue on a positive light with both of the gay characters' self-acceptance and also the acceptance of their family and friends. Sabi nila Korea is very traditional and homosexuality is a big taboo, so I see this a step towards Korean society's acceptance of the LGBT+ community. It'll still be a looong way for them, but at least they've started acknowledging the issue.

-o-

Next dramas in line are either of the following: Goblin, Vincenzo or Hospital Playlist. I am currently watching my Western dramas, Dawson's Creek and Grey's Anatomy, kaso ang dadrama nila eh. Gusto ko nga feel-good, happy shows, diba? Lalo na 'tong si Dawson's Creek na 'to- naloloka ako sa teenage angst at sa laki ng problema nila sa mga lovelife nila. Season 2 pa lang ako sa Dawson's Creek. Mabigat siya so I watch in small doses. Nakakaapekto ang pagka-emo nila. Haha.

Casi Un Año

Almost one year since the lockdown/community quarantines began and it seems that things haven't improved still. People were actually more cautious back when there were still a few cases; ngayon na marami na namang cases, bahala na si Batman.

I am currently on a two-week self-imposed quarantine after babysitting my nephew in Marikina while my sister was in the hospital (non-COVID case, btw).  Day 3. Bored na ako. But still nothing beats being in your own house, sleeping on your own bed. Technically it is not my bed since I'm staying in the guest room, but I guess you know what I mean. While on quarantine, I want to do the ff:

  • finally finish reading Maybe in Another Life and finish two more books
  • finish Run On, a K-drama I just started watching yesterday
  • finish watching all BTS Bon Voyage episodes
  • watch the soapmaking on-demand tutorial video I enrolled in
  • finish making photobooks for Honkong and Taiwan trips
  • make layouts for my bujo, at least until October 2021
  • finish Anne's Jimin doll
Tingnan natin kung may matapos ako jan. LOL. Of course I still have to work while I'm cooped inside my room. I am super duper grateful that orders are starting to pick up. Has something to do with the economy opening up and people are less restricted and can move around more freely. Personally, I feel that things should have been done gradually, lalo na at yung mga tao sobrang atat lumabas- ayan rampa! Sana may guidelines. Slowly but surely, ika nga. It came from them that the country can't afford another total lockdown, but what if things get out of hand and closing down everything must be done? Epal kasi ng gobyerno na 'to eh. Excellent daw ang COVID response nila. E di wow. Hay. Tama na nga ang BV.

Moving on... today is Suga's birthday ☺ 생일 축하합니다 ! Siempre meron kaming handa- sushi bake, minty brownies and garlic parmesan. Boring lang since I celebrated by my lonesome self, quarantined in this tiny room. It would've been more fun eating with my fellow army-sister. LOL.

It's only March and I've already finished four K-dramas. Again, I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. O eto na report ko sa mga natapos ko na dramas.

Penthouse

Didn't really intend to watch this but when my friend said that she's watching this drama, I read the synopsis and watched the first episode- and the rest is history. I got hooked. Hindi ko naman siya like na like pero the storyline kind of hooks you into it? Inis na inis na ako sa lahat sa kanila, yung tipong gusto ko silang batuhin ng something kung puede lang... pero at the same time, gusto ko malaman kung ano'ng mangyayari. At ang malala, may season 2 siya!!! I don't know if I want to watch the second season though. Maybe when I'm done watching all the kdramas I really want to watch.

Medyo eye-opener etong drama na 'to ha. Eugene playing mother roles to 16 year olds? Medyo ouch. Talagang ahjumma levels na 'to.

True Beauty

source

OMG I was excited over this drama because, 1) I am reading the webtoon and, 2) Cha Eun-woo. The webtoon is still ongoing and I thought it would be nice to know how they would end the drama.

Out of 10 stars, I'd give it a 7. I didn't like Moon Ga-young as Jugyeong- ang pabebe ng bwiset haha. Maybe the role calls for it but it's super annoying when she talks like that. If it weren't for the eye candies, Cha Eun-woo and Hwang In-yeop, I would've dropped this series midway.

I'm also starting to get tired of the webtoon. Masyado nang feeling si Lim Jugyeong. **SPOILER ALERT** In one of the chapters, she was meeting her blind date in a cafe. The guy looked different from his profile picture which irked your Ate Jugyeong. Well, the date was mej feelingero pero sana wala na yung comment na 'he looks oddly different'. Ikaw pa talaga ang nag-judge sa kanya for doing that, Ate Jugyeong?

I enjoyed the drama naman but there are times when I get irritated at Moon Ga-young's manner of speaking. Sabi ni Ate, nerd daw kasi. I know a lot of nerds who don't talk like that. Now I want to try watching one of her dramas to know if she really talks like that.

Mr. Queen

source

Another drama that I didn't really plan on watching but ended up watching because read about it in dramabeans and usually those dramabeans peeps and I are one the same kdrama wavelength.

I enjoyed this Kdrama so much, so funny. I just feel that when the real queen is back in her body, then that is not the queen that our king has fallen in love with. Maybe Jang Bong-hwan's character sort of rubbed off on the queen eventually pero still that is not her. Sabi nga nila 'wag masyado mag-isip, suspension of disbelief eme. And I'm happy to do so. Ayoko na mag-critical thinking, no?

If it weren't for the dramabeans blog reviews, I wouldn't have watched this because I didn't really like the lead actress and I sort of have an aversion to sageuk dramas. Binasag na yan actually ni Hwarang and 100 Days My Prince, pero there's still this tiny part of me that doesn't want to watch the genre.

Loved Shin Hye-sun in this drama. Bati na kami, haha.

More Than Friends

source

I started watching this drama early this year. Because of Ong Seung-woo. Oo, lalaki ulit ang dahilan. LOLs. But man, this drama was painfully sloooow- kung gaano si Kuya kabagal sa pag-realize ng feelings niya kay Ate Girl- so I just finished watching this drama yesterday.

At dahil fresh pa sa aking isip ang mga pangyayari, mas marami akong feelings regarding this drama. 'Di naman marami, actually.

First- at the beginning of the drama, Woo-yeon has this one-sided thing for Lee Soo. Well, if I were Woo-yeon I would also, sort of, would develop feelings for the guy. It is wrong to assume kasi nga diba sabi nila, if you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME. Ganern. Pero besh, he's giving her special treatment!! O baka sadyang pa-fall lang si Lee Soo. Soooo... towards the middle of the drama when Lee Soo realizes he likes Woo-yeon in that way and Woo-yeon has, supposedly, moved on from him with Joon-soo eh ang sarap sigawan ng BEH, BUTI NGA

Although I sort of get din where Lee Soo was coming from. His parents' relationship was sorta malabo and maybe, unconsciously, he's been avoiding having relationships for fear of being in one that mimics his parents'. At saka, they're BFFs- hindi pa ba tayo natuto sa Friendzone that some would rather keep the friendship than risk going into a relationship and in the event that things don't go well, you lose the friendship as well.

Second- gone are the days of asshole second-leads, no? Writers are making it harder for us viewers by giving us a cute, mabait and kind lead AND an equally cute (minsan cuter pa!), mabait and kind second lead as well. Case in point, Joon-soo. Wala ka namang maipintas kay Kuya except that our female lead is just not that into him. Ika nga ni Joshua kay Julia, sinubukan naman natin diba? Lels. And when Lee Soo and Woo-yeon were broken up, Joon-soo didn't take the opportunity to swoop in and get the girl. May sinabi siya pero nakalimutan ko na. Haha. Basta ayun, dilemma para sa ating viewers bilang nahihirapan tayong pumili sa kanilang dalawa. At mas malaking dilemma dahil sa totong buhay ay wala naman tayong pagpipilian. Hahaha. Lech.

Third- while Woo-yeon and Lee Soo were in long-distance relationship, the time difference was a big challenge for them. At first, they were handling it pretty well but eventually both their schedules got more hectic, their thrice-a-day phone calls turned into twice-a-day turned into once-a-day turned into missed/unreturned calls. Puede namang mag-text diba? Ng "sorry I missed your call. We were shooting my calligraphy eme for the movie." So na-frustrate si Woo-yeon because she feels that she's not that important to him anymore, that he's not her priority. So she broke up with him over the phone. Si Kuya naman madaling kausap, so sabi niya, Okay. Noted. So fast forward... Lee Soo returns to Korea, surprises Woo-yeon in her workshop studio. Hindi natuwa si Ate. Lee Soo wants to pick up where they left off, but Woo-yeon thinks she's had it. And here's my favorite scene- when Woo-yeon was pouring out her heart to their friend who owns the resto-bar, he told her this,

"If you are so quick to judge things from the beginning,
no matter whom you meet and what kind of love they offer,
you won't receive it."

Boom. Galing ni friend.  Ayan, words or wisdom from kdramas.

Out of 10, I'd give it a 6. Keri naman. Boring lang siya. And here I realized that I only liked Ong Seung-woo in A Moment at Eighteen. Of course I now know better than to judge a drama based on the actors playing the characters or based on genres. Dapat lang marunong ako mag-let go.

So there, kdramas I've finished so far. Right now I am watching three- She Would Never Know, Run On and a Japanese drama, Oh My Boss! Love is a Bonus Book. So far, so good. Maybe I'll do another not-really-a-review review post when I'm done with all three.

Okay. Yun lang.

KDramas Pa More

It's my birth month, yay! ♥ In fact, it is only two days a day away. I'm excited but at the same time, also frustrated. Everyone is frustrated naman, I think. And I have not been productive AT ALL. When this lockdown started, I've been meaning to make another loaf of cold-processed soap but five months after and I haven't done it yet. I already broke the hand mixer I bought solely for this purpose, so yeah good luck na lang if I'll ever get to make that batch of soap.

Anywaaaay... this post is about two K-dramas I recently finished watching- Hotel del Luna and Was It Love?

Hotel de Luna

I didn't watch this drama at first because it has ghosts in it. I stopped watching horror movies when my horror/supernatural-movie/documentary-partner got married and moved out. Plus, I do think it is true that you attract these energies the more you think talk about them or watch those kinds of shows. At bilang I sleep alone in the room I share with my sister most of the time (she stays in an apartment near her workplace on weekends), ayoko nang takutin ang sarili ko. However, since she's home during this five-month-long lockdown, I finally mustered the courage to watch Hotel del Luna. Maganda daw eh.

And, boy, I'm glad I did because I LOVED IT. It's a beautiful drama. Such a beautiful story. Consciously, I choose to watch feel-good romcoms because this world is so effed up and full of drama as it is, why would I want to watch about other people's misery? Well, Hotel del Luna is not straight-up drama, may bits and pieces of comedy and action.

Ang galing how they were able to build up the main story (the present) and how, little by little, they're also giving us the back story (the past). I'm more of a Man Wol + Chung Myung 'shipper, y'know the age-old tale of star-crossed lovers. That scene when Chung Myung and Man Wol were sitting together in front of the lake, right before things went haywire...

super duper love this song ♥

Ang sakit sa heart, besh. As in, I felt that. At face value, it may look like Chung Myung betrayed Man Wol or that he pretended to have fallen in love with Man Wol or that he befriended the band of rebels so he could have access to them and eventually be able to arrest them or suppress their plans. But I KNOW there's much more to what happened, I KNOW Chung Myung didn't befriend them just to betray them. I can see it in his eyes... (talaga lang, ha!) And that, my friends, is what made me press Next Episode...

I thought Chan Seong was Chun Myung's reincarnation. He's not and towards the end, I found what his role was in Man Wol's past life. Besh, eto yung perfect embodiment ng linyang pinagtagpo pero 'di tinadhana (they crossed paths but were never meant to be together). And that open-ended ending... just my cup of tea.

So this drama made me think if we do really die or we just get transformed into other life beings (bilang tayo ay energy and energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it can only be converted into another form). Seryoso.

Basta, this drama definitely makes it into my list of favorite dramas. I really should give all dramas equal chances cos just like this one, it might surprise & delight me.

Was It Love?

I waited until the drama ended before I watched episodes 15 and 16 para isang go na lang.

The ending was okay. After watching the last two episodes, I was slightly disappointed that Dae Oh chose to leave Ae Jong and Hanee. Maybe he was being selfless when he put Ae Jong and Hanee's welfare first before his happiness. I just don't get it why they chose not to keep in touch in those two years. Sabi nga ni Nadine, c'mon guys it's 2018 2020 na pala! Anon'ng ginagawa ng Facebook, Viber, Messenger, Line at Kakao? Maybe to give them both time to focus on their careers... ano ba ang two years? Kung si Man-wol at Chan-seong nga isang lifetime (rough estimate, LOL) ang hihintayin, ano ba naman ang dalawang taon? So yeah, maybe time and space are needed so they can work things out.

However, I just don't get it why they say that it was Dae Oh who abandoned Ae jong. I mean, it was Ae jong who left. Baka meron akong na-miss na detail. I believe Dae Oh didn't even know he fathered a child, so why is he being painted as the bad guy? Di ko naman gets yung mga tao, why would they be angry with an author whose novel was supposedly based on his life- sabi nga ni Kim Taehyung tawag jan ay artistic license.

What I learned about watching Kdramas is that the Kdrama world is like a box of chocolated, you never know what you're going to get.

Gushing About: Was It Love?

This drama has gotten so much better. During the first few episodes, I was a little iffy whether I'd love love love it or drop it midway into the drama (like Oh My Baby). image source

Well I got into this drama because, um, FOUR HOT BOYS MEN AFTER OUR FEMALE LEAD and who's not a sucker for that?!?

Anyway, so midway into the drama more or less we already have a clue who's Ha-nee's real father is. I am 99.9% sure as to who he is, but I can be wrong and that's why I'm looking forward to episode 11 so I can confirm my haka-haka.

In episode 10, we sort of found out why they broke up Ae-jung left Dae-oh, but if that's the only reason why then I feel that it was unfair to Dae-oh because he wasn't given the chance to explain his side. And if he is Ha-nee's real father, it's more unfair that he was robbed of the opportunity to be a father to her. Although some might say that he might have not been a good father, but at least he should've been informed that he has a child, bahala na siya kung ano ang gagawin niya sa impormasyon na 'yun. It is also unfair to him that this child has been hating and blaming him for abandoning her and her mother when in fact, he doesn't even know that she exists. Ayun lang. Feeling ko lang unfair kay Dae-oh. Kung siya nga ang tatay.

At first, I was rooting for the younger guy, Yeon-woo, because I've always liked gravitated towards the younger guys (ajumma, FTW!). As the drama progresses, I've slowly shifted my allegiance towards Dae-oh. Yeah, he was angry at first because he didn't get the closure he needed (and wanted) when Ae-jung just upped and left; however, I understand where this anger is coming from. At hindi pa siya nakakamove on. Obviously, Ae-jung still has feelings for him but she's guarded herself from giving in for fear of getting hurt again.

For Ryu-jin, Ae-jung was his TOTGA (ang baho talaga haha) and what's difficult for him is Dae-oh is also his close friend. I've never rooted for him. Mabagal kasi siya. Ganyan 'pag mabagal, naiiwan sa kangkungan. I don't like him for Ae-jung but I still want him to be happy with someone else, someone like Ah-rin.

Ayan hanggang jan muna. I'm not sure if I would be able to post another entry about Was It Love? when it's already done. I'm so excited for the last six episodes!! Three more weeks!? Gaaah!

P.S. It's almost my birthday! Yay ☺☺ Counted ba this year?

Kdrama Marathon: The ECQ Edition

Start of the 72nd day of ECQ. Kahit anong uri pa ng community quarantine 'yan, the truth is we're still not free to go back to the way it was. Even if we're allowed to go to malls, I don't think I would unless very necessary.

So, what have I been doing to keep myself entertained? KOREAN DRAMAS. I've re-watched a few, finished also new titles. Dahil wala naman akong magawa, posting about it here, accomplishment report baga.

Itaewon Class

Akala ko romcom, serious pala. But I liked this drama's message- try and try until you die succeed. Loved the persistence of Saeroyi but of course I feel that the circumstances were too good to be true- o sadyang magaling lang si kuya magplano ng comeback niya. While most of the viewers prefer Jo Yi-seo over Soo-ah, conflicted pa rin ako. Sabagay, if Saeroyi and Soo-ah were meant to happen (and if they truly liked each other), they wouldn't wait that long. Daming nasayang na panahon. But all's well that ends well. Panalo din si Ate Yi-seo.

Hyena

Watched this because of Ju Ji-hoon. I just recently found out that Shin Goon (Goong) is also the Crown Prince in Kingdom. Liked the chemistry between the leads, but I found it a bit lacking. Got bored at some parts while some parts were also exciting. I always liked it when the guy's more sensitive and vulnerable than the female.

World of the Married

I usually steer clear of dramas, especially kabit dramas but posts about this drama has been flooding my feed. Boy, was I glad that I jumped on this bandwagon because I enjoyed it tremendously. Medyo cathartic... yung gusto mong tirisin silang lahat. This drama is sad. That ending was sad, medyo true to life nga siguro na nobody wins in similar situations. I feel sorry for Sun-woo, but the person I feel most sorry for is Joon-young. Maybe what I didn't like in this drama is that Da-kyung was allowed to escape her predicament. If it were up to me, I will let her rot in sadness in that relationship with Tae-oh.

 My Secret, Terrius

Watched this because of So Ji-sub, who I just found out, got married recently. Aside from the eye candy, I also enjoyed the action sequences. Although, I feel that they can't let Ae-rin just join in their operations without training her. She just lost her husband and she has two kids to care for, if she gets into an accident or if the bad people go after her, who will look after her kids? Even if will pay her lots of moolah, why in the world would she agree to it? So ayun lang. Guapo pa rin ni So Ji-sub ♥

A Moment at 18

Started watching this a few months ago. Stopped cos I got bored. Resumed again just cos I have the time. Then I got caught up in all the teenage love triangle and after a day and a half, I've devoured all 16 episodes :P It also helped that Joon-woo is such a cutie ♥ Basag-trip lang nung sinabing 37 na yung nanay niya sa drama, which is the same age as me. Leche. Haha. That ending was open-ended and I love it. So bittersweet.

Unti lang pala eh. Akala ko nakarami na ako although I'm not counting the dramas I've re-watched. Currently watching Oh My Baby! (Jang Na-ra) and so far, I'm enjoying it. Medyo too close for comfort lang pero I can manage LOL. Continued watching Dr. Romantic 1 because I want to watch season 2 with Lee Sung-kyung. Other dramas I started but can't get to finish are Meow, the Secret Boy (hindi ko kayang arukin na ma-i-in love siya sa pusa) and My Holo Love (super dragging).

40/233 (updated 04.06.2020)

There's so much I haven't seen. Well, I don't think there are a lot I won't even think of watching since I don't like period dramas and Park Shin-hye (although I might be watching Memories of Alhambra because of Hyun Bin).

Back With A K-Bang!

These days, my Kindle is nothing but a toy. It's already the end of March and I've read only one book. One. I feel bad that I've stopped reading, but it's partly because of work. I can't read and work at the same time, but I can watch Netflix and K-dramas at the same time ;)

Speaking of K-dramas, I've been on a roll since the year started. Thanks to my bed rest, I finally finished watching all 52 episodes of My Father is Strange.  I've read about how good the drama is but I've always can't muster enough time to watch all 52 episodes without getting bored. Not that the show is boring but 52 episodes is just to plenty to hold my attention. Pero ayun nga, I got sick and had all the time in the world.

The drama was recommended by Ate Michelle. So far, I've liked her recommendations- mostly lengthy family dramas, LOL. In Father is Strange, my favorite character is Hyeyoung and my favorite love story is Hyeyoung and Jung-hwan's. So funny and during the time I was watching the drama, my family was sort of in a similar situation. My cousin's favorite pairing is that of Miyoung and Joong-hee's. Eh hindi ko bet. I think it's cringey when one starts to have feelings for a family member even if turns out they weren't related... and in Mi-young and Joong-hee's case, even if they weren't really related, they didn't know that when they started to develop feelings for each other. Aside from that, everything's A-OK :) Loved it but I think it'll be a while before I watch another drama this lengthy.

Also just finished watching Romance is A Bonus Book on Netflix. I forgot what made me start watching this drama but I'm glad I did because I liked it (inspite of Lee Jong-suk). And since I don't like Lee Jong-suk, I prefer the second male lead, Seo-joon the book cover artist. Actually, I prefer his love story with Hae-rin. I was actually rooting for them and I'm glad they did end up together. Sa kanila ako kinikilig.

Throughout the drama, I keep wondering about Kang Dan-i's daughter. I know she's in boarding school somewhere but doesn't she visit her daughter once in a while? I feel sinadya nila na the daughter goes to boarding school para convenient for the mom (and the storyline) to make landi. Haha.

Soon I'm starting with three dramas- The Producers, Marriage Contract and The Package. The latter two were recommended by Ate Michelle ulit. Ihahalo-halo ko panunuod para hindi ako ma-bore. May the best drama win.
