pick flick: tron legacy

Eastwood last night with BFF Armida. Merienda/dinner at Kogi Bulgogi (or is Kogi Korean?) and I had scrumptious beef bulgogi rice toppings and jap chae. After our almost 2-hour meal, we made pasear around the mall, usi at the tiangge and that's when I saw Tron Legacy's movie poster. I absolutely have no clue about the movie and have come to know about it only through Chuck, my favorite geek. Because we still have a lot of time on our hands and Armida has her handy dandy movie pass, we watched Tron Legacy.
Garrett Hedlund- my current eye candy ;)
this girl's brows are to die for! Of course, she's beautiful as well but I reckon the brows are attainable
  1. Garrett Hedlund plays Sam Flynn, Kevin Flynn's son who is also some sort of a techie. It's official, Hedlund is my man-crush as of the moment. Abs kung abs, pare ;) I like **ahjumma mode** Of course, googled him right away when I got home and found out he was Harlan in Georgia Rule. Grabe, styling really does wonders. Even if this movie has got me scratching my head at the end, just ogling this eye candy compensates for the mostly clueless two hours of Tron Legacy.
  2. I wonder if Chuck, in any of the recent episodes, mentioned 2010's remake of his 1982 favorite. Because I have been very busy the past few weeks, I haven't been able to watch Chuck (or any of my favorite series for that matter) and I am interested to find out if he had made any mention of the movie.
  3. Another sign that I am watching too much local tv- Kevin and Clu actually reminded me of Agua Bendita. Haha.
  4. If I were to create an alternate universe, I think I would make it better than our universe. I really find it weird and I don't think anyone would want to live in a world like that- first, there's too much violence; and second, they only have three or four colors. Such an unhappy place, I tell you. If I were to create an alternate universe, I'd make it a place I would want to escape to, not to escape from. Kevin kind of realizes this towards the end when he says that he was so obsessed with creating perfection that he failed to see that it was just right before his eyes all the frickin' time.
  5. Olivia Wilde's brows are beautiful! I covet her brows truly madly and deeply. If only I could have brows like that I would be one happy girl, but then again what are these brow powders and pencils for? But yeah, she makes me want to watch the more recent seasons of House.
  6. 28 years ago, a movie like this would've been the shizz with all the science fiction ekek but living in the here and now where science fiction is slowly become more science and less fiction, I am not that much awed with this one. Don't get me wrong because I liked the movie though I am not a raving fan.
I don't know if there will be another sequel. I think yes, but then again my guesses are almost always wrong so let's just wait and see. I still cannot fully grasp what the movie's all about. I think I get it but I am not sure if I really do. But I will stop dissecting the movie and just revel in Garrett's hunkiness ;)

Tron Legacy is movie # 62. Ack. 38 more movies to go and only 11 days left of 2010. Although I think it still is possible with all the DVDs still unwatched and Ycel's pamanang VCDs but then again there's the factor of other pressing matters that needs to be done like the books of account, blech. Ay basta, Garrett Hedlund **sigh**

pick flick: my amnesia girl

As some sort of thanks to Ate Jo, my sister's seamstress, who helped with my bazaar, I gave her blush espadrilles (which I also like for myself) and treated her to lunch and movie yesterday. Had lunch at 3pm already at Jollibee with Jollibee favorites, spaghetti and chickenjoy, then we're off to the cinemas to ogle at John Lloyd's cuteness.

  1. First of all, I commend this movie for not using a song title for it's, well, title. Might seem trivial to others but that is a big deal for me. So sick and tired of movies named after songs. Although a little bit Korean movie-ish ang title, keri na rin.
  2. And also, wigs! There was again use of a wig here but props to whoever was in charge of wardrobe (or is it styling?) because it wasn't obvious. The wig didn't look like an entire different entity from the wearer as the norm in Star Cinema movies.
  3. I liked how the trailer didn't reveal the "twist," so to speak. Sabi nga nila, with Filipino movies you just have to watch the trailer and you'll know the story of the movie already, no need to watch it in the cinemas. I was delightfully surprised with this one.
  4. And of course it also helps that John Lloyd stars in this movie. Cuteness overload ♥ especially when he wiggles his butt. Haha!
  5. If someone stood me up at the altar and I do something to retaliate, I definitely won't apologize. He deserved it for all the hurt caused, right? Kapal naman ng fez niya na siya pa may gana ma-hurt ano! Maybe that's the only bit in the movie I was not agreeable to.
  6. I like Toni's Tory Burch flats! Unfortunately, a pair costs around 12K ata. No na lang. Andami ko nang mabibili sa 12K. A whole wardrobe already plus I could throw in a pair of Anthology flats with that amount.
Definitely a must-watch for all John Lloyd oglers and rom-com lovers like moi. But beware and get ready to be inundated with cheesy lines which, in fernezzz, benta naman.

pick flick: easy A

One post before I retire for the day. I was supposed to do labels and stuff today yesterday but AD asked if I could go to her office which, technically, is conveniently located in a mall so she could show me the computer table she would give as a Christmas gift to me, the shoes she wants to buy for herself and to bring that paper on which I traced daddy's shoe size. Since I only hitched a ride with Vicky, with whom I got into a screamfest just yesterday over chimichangas' fight, who was in a hurry, I forgot to bring daddy's shoe size. Well, my pride's pretty cheap- I'd rather hitch a ride with her til the nearest MRT station than spend a little less than 100 (and of course, the effort) if I commute.

I can watch anything with my freebie ticket except Megamind in 3D and Unstoppable. Choice was between Megamind and Easy A. Although I enjoyed the last cartoon movie I watched which was Despicable Me, I was not that keen on watching another one too soon. Besides, I could watch that on DVD na lang since I was more excited to see Easy A.
Aside from watching movies, I also enjoy watching movie trailers which you wouldn't be able to do if you're watching DVDs at home. Speaking of trailers, I saw this Warrior's Way trailer with Jang Dong-gun as the lead. Oh wow! I'm so proud of my Asian brothas, lol. Actually more than that, I'm just giddy that he'll be starring in an international movie because I used to watch his Korean dramas and movies. Nag-level up na siya: from Hallyu to Hollywood. And also, I think I saw Chester Bennington in Saw 3D's trailer. Sellout. Joke ;) I think I want to watch Saw in 3D.
  1. Because I got in into the middle of the movie, it was Amanda Bynes's face I first saw and my first reaction was: "I thought she's retired from acting?" Looks like I didn't get the memo. But I'm glad she's back cos I am a fan and I do enjoy her movies (Sydney White, She's the Man). And dayum, she's pretty leggy... I am envious!
  2. Though this is only the second Emma Stone movie I've seen (House Bunny being the first), I can say that I ♥ Emma Stone! She is so funny. Her lisp distracts me though. Still, I think she's genius. I love it how she makes those facial expressions and actions cos she seems so real and how she's not afraid to make herself 'ugly.' I'm not sure as to her other movies but it seems to me that she always plays the role of a geek chick. I wonder if she's a nerd in real life. I especially loved that Pocketful of Sunshine bit. Hilarious. I can frickin' relate with her when it comes to being able to amuse her own self because I can do that. And oh, I love her room! I want that room!
  3. The only thing I know of this movie is that Emma Stone's starring in it and it's about this rumor that's absolutely false. I totally had no idea as to the other actors who'll be in it. Imagine my surprise when Dan aka Penn Badgley entered the scene. Gah! Bumalik crush ko sa kanya, circa Gossip Girl season 1. So maybe only Dan the character is what's turning me off against Penn Badgley; otherwise, I still find him cute.
  4. I remember third year high school in this movie not for anything else but because it was when we read Scarlet Letter and were asked to do a book report on it. And so I can perfectly understand the premise of the movie.
  5. I also would want my life to be like an 80s movie! Who doesn't want to be Andie (Molly Ringwald) who scores the good-looking Blaine in Pretty in Pink? Or Keith (Mary Stuart Masterson) who gets the guy in the end in Some Kind of Wonderful? Sadly, my teenage years were devoid of any kilig feelings of the non-fictional kind. This makes me want to have a John Hughes movie marathon soon and, again, vicariously feel the giddiness of teenage love.
  6. I came in late, right? I came in after Olive (Stone) stated that she wanted her life to be an 80s movie and I missed all that reference to them. So I am so proud that I still got the reference to Say Anything when Todd shows up holding headphones blaring Simple Minds' Don't You (Forget About Me). Props to me! See, my obsession for teenybopper films and my frantic search for VCDs (pre-torrents days) paid off :)
I am in love with teenybopper films! After I am done with all these business stuff, I will have a movie marathon of all the teenybopper movies I own and declare it my cheat day so I could gobble down chips and coke while wishing that my high school days were like that. Frickin' exclusive school for girls! Haha.

pick flick: till my heartaches end

Mukhang umubra sakin ang may-I-cry drama ni Gerald Anderson at Kim Chiu sa presscon nila cos I already watched the movie... on its second day of release, no less. Well, I wanted to treat Lynlyn to a movie since she's been helping me out with my orders, etc. and since she hasn't been to a cinema yet and she's been here in Manila for almost two years. Excuses... But really, it's more of my way to show that I appreciate her help albeit the attitude she's been giving me recently and also sort of a bribe, too. But it's our little secret from all the other girls here in the house and from my mommy because the other girls would be envious and my mommy would think it's unnecessary. Anyway, so we were there for the first screening of the second day of release. Hindi rin naman kami masyado excited ano?

i don't like this movie poster. it's so... bland, unimaginative
  1. First and foremost, ang PAAAAAYAAAAT ni Kim Chiu! She's so thin, she looks like a pantyshield. Harhar. Pero I'm inggit. I super like her wardrobe in this movie and some of them even looked familiar. Ang ganda ng bagsak ng damit sa kanya, but I don't want to be like her-like her with all her skeletal system sticking out, shedding 30 lbs would be enough. There was this one scene where Gerald Anderson's character told Kim Chiu's, 'eh baka kasi nagugutom ka,' and if I had written the script, Kim's reply wuold be, 'mukha ba akong kumakain?' Mahirap na maging bitter. Ha.
  2. But she is miserable! I'd rather be fat voluptuous and happy than thin and miserable. Agnes (Chiu) is this quiet girl who came to Manila to review for her NCLEX. I don't think she was miserable because of the relationship. She was miserable. Period. Maybe because she's a girl who's got this abandonment issue stemming from the absence of her parents who were working abroad. Once she had her first relationship with Paolo (Anderson), she clung to him like a remora fish would to a shark and made her world revolve around him. Or maybe because it was her relationship and didn't know better. I hate weak people who's auto-response to things is crying.
  3. This movie could have been more believable if Agnes' necklace was snatched in this movie. Seriously, how could anyone go out in Recto with those bling bling and not be mugged?
  4. Agnes was NBSB (no boyfriend since birth), a situation I can relate to. All throughout the movie, there were a lot of scenes wherein I swear I wanted to hit her. Like the time when Paolo wasn't replying to his messages and wasn't answering his call- that was too clingy already. If I were in her place, I would have retaliated by giving him a dose of his own medicine. But of course, this is what I think I would do given the situation but I can't really say if I would do just that if I were in such situation. I know it's easier said than done. I suppose this all boils down to self-respect- you wouldn't allow someone to treat you that way if you have respect for yourself.
  5. But Paolo also has a point- Agnes has become a wet blanket. She doesn't even try to get to know his world. All she wants is she and him in their own world na hindi naman posible. Well, it was done in Inception pero nabu-ang ang babae, remember? And besides, it's also not healthy. He tries to bring her to his world but what does she do? May Cinderella complex ang lola mo! She has to be home by 12:30. She should have at least tried to integrate herself into what he's into. She doesn't have to like it but she could at least try. Or maybe they could get into a compromise. But seriously, WHAT DO I KNOW?!? Okay, I will shut up.
  6. Ang hirap sa mayayabang, they fail to see that people around them are trying to help them yet they don't see that because they're too busy proving themselves. Like what John Lloyd's character in A Very Special Love said, "Dad, kung talagang hindi kami magkakaiba, why do I even have to prove anything?" So I liked the scene where Mark Gil told Paolo that he has always been his son it's just that he just never gave him a chance to be a father to him. In other words, hindi naman kelangan na naghirap siya ng ganun at tumira siya sa ganun pero dahil mayabang siya, ayan. But then again, if he didn't feel the need to prove himself, he wouldn't have become a millionaire.
  7. And for the nth time, ANOTHER MOVIE TITLE DERIVED FROM A SONG! Oh puhleeze :( Although I must say, no wigs this time.
In fairness, I commend Kim Chiu for her acting on this one. As with Gerald, his speech still distracts me. I don't know if it's because Filipino is not his first language or he's trying to speak like a macho man. Basta there's something distracting in the way he speaks. And the emotions didn't feel true-to-life naman.

pick flick: the orphan

Finally had the time to blog. Purposely drank coffee tonight so I could stay up late and do extracurricular stuff such as posting on this blog, tumblring and also staying up until I finish the movie, The Orphan, on HBO. Oh goody, an addition to my 100 Movies in 2010 Project. Just 44 movies to go and I will hit my target. Just you wait and see til I finish my work and I will movie marathon the living daylights out of me.

Back to The Orphan, which AD already told me what the movie was all about a year ago so I already knew what would happen but that didn't stop me from shrieking my lungs out on the suspense-laden parts.

Just looking at her face gives me the creeps. And what's most creepy of all is Esther reminds me of someone- my aunt's adopted daughter. I really believe this hilaw na cousin of mine is indeed 30 years old and not seven. I will not be surprised if one day I see her in a black tube dress with matching raccoon eyes and next time I see her, I will definitely look for scars. Paranoid much? The Orphan will make you think twice before letting a stranger into your house. Of course you just mean well but the world is full of psychos.

I'm such a sucker for this type of movies. I enjoy screaming my lungs out. I love horror movies too but since I have no one to watch spooky horror movies with me (because my sister who likes ghost movies as well has gotten married), have steered clear of them. Yes, I am a scaredy cat like that.

Who said that only in Philippine movies do the police arrive late in the crime scene? They also do in Hollywood movies. In other words, wala silang silbi. They have guns and whathaveyous to fend off criminals and psychotics and psychotic criminals. What are they good for if they arrive too late? Eh di sana stretcher na lang palagi dala nila kasi patay na lahat pagdating nila. Why bother bringing guns, ya?

Yipee, another movie in the list! Jaime gave me three movie passes to I Do and am thinking of treating the girls tomorrow as a treat for helping me out. I really don't want to watch but hey, it's free and an Enchong Dee movie ;)

on a roll

I don't even know how to start this so I thought I would start by saying that I don't know how to start this.

Happy Tuesday! I will wield all my focus on the good, the better and the bets. Haters gonna hate! Haha. A lot of obstacles in my way but from now on I try to make the best out of every situation and try not to lose my cool (which happens ALL the time). Only 44 days left 'til my big event for the season, career-wise. Just resting for a wee bit today and updating this blog o' mine (that only I read) before working my ass off concocting awesomeness in my sister's kitchen.

Saturday was Spanish Culture Awareness Day
I was busy Thursday and Friday that I wasn't able to get into the email chain among my classmates. They were planning on going to the Galeón Andalucía pala and I was totally oblivious to it. Only learned about it through Jaime who sent me a text message around 9pm if I was going. Meet-up was in IC and at 7:30 am. I really wasn't interested in going but I wanted to go just because I don't want to be left alone in class with all my classmates in the galeón. But I slept late because I waited up for my sister who turned out to be not coming home; she had an event very early the following day.

It dawned on me she was with the Galeón! She asked me Wednesday night if I wanted to volunteer to become *ahem*  a translator of some sort. I told her mukhang hindi pa kaya ng powers ko, but as opposed to them who didn't really know how to speak Spanish, keri na ang limited 'skill' ko. But- I had things planned out to do Thursday and Friday. Sayang. Oh well... So ayun, I kinda connected the dots and came to the conclusion that the galeon was her event and texted her if she could get me and my friends in. She texted back Saturday morning already. Initially, she said she can't get us in since it was already the last day and it was only until 11am and the line outside was preposterously long. Oh okay. I wasn't really interested. But then she texted me and said she could get us in. Texted Jaime but he didn't reply, turned out they just went back to class. Only Josette and I got inside. Josette and I, the most uninterested persons to see the galeon out of the bunch, got inside. The irony...

'Andalusha'
Not to be cocky because I got in but people were in a riot for this?
It's not even the real thing.
Just saying...

people were eager to meet our colonizers
Arrr... reminded me of Pirates of the Carribean. Not history. Ha.
Siguro nga you shouln't want something so bad because you end up not having it. If there are any lessons learned from this experience, siguro it's 'petiks lang'. Seriously, you get what you don't really want and you don't get what you really really want. Ask once and let God and the powers of the universe take care of it after. Maybe we don't really need to put in all our energy into wishing things. Just ask and accept. So Lord, ayoko talaga ng guapo... at mayaman at mabait at magaling magluto =)

Josette and I were still able to attend one hour of class. Just two more meetings left for Noli 2. Decided not to enroll for next course because I have to concentrate on my business, especially the holidays is the busiest season for me. I will miss my Saturday routine- early morning commute, brain food, descanso, lunch and chismis sessions with friends. Though I'll be back for Fili.

PelĆcula Pelikula at Greenbelt 3 after class. Met up with Pam, who reserved tickets for us. Stayed for two movies: Desierto Adentro and La Teta Asustada- both emotionally draining and disturbing. Oh wow. Joked about wanting to jump off the building after watching these two movies. Hebigats, pare.

Desierto Adentro
A man tries to pay for his sin of 'causing' death to a priest during the revolution tries to redeem himself and his eight children by building a church. He believed that his youngest son, Aureliano, was the weakest among the eight and the first God would take away from him. But living in isolation has taken its toll on his children and in his obsession, he failed to notice such.  This resulted to his kids dying, running away and having incestuous relationship.

A good watch although one should watch it during happy days because doing so on sucky days would really make you want to jump off a cliff.

La Teta Asustada
TambiƩn una pelƭcula muy triste. Though this one has a happy ending, so to speak.
Fausta's ignorance (or is it innocence? maybe a little bit of both) reminded me of country bumpkins such as ... Anyway, here's another disturbing movie and just seeing the movie poster now, more disturbing but I must admit a bit funny. Watch the movie and you'll get the significance of a potato in her life.

What I liked about this movie is that there still are people who are innately good in the person of NoƩ, the gardener. Instead of taking advantage of her innocence as some other man would have done, she helped Fausta find her independence.

Why do art or award-winning films often have to be about poverty, depression, incest or some other depressing fact of life? They're good films but really, movies like these suck the energy out of me. Although an 'intelligent' film like this is advisable once in awhile, a deviation from my usually ditzy, fairy tale-ish movie choices. Though it is advisable not to watch depressing movies one after another; my heart would explode.

Stay-in Sunday
No lunch-out for us last Sunday. Mommy was sick. Wak was sick, also. Accompanied AD to a baptism she proxy-d for her husband. I was given less than 30 minutes to prepare which explains the Judy Ann ca. Mara Clara days outfit. Went to Eastwood to buy baptismal gift then off to Tomas Morato to drop off the gift. Headed back home and had delicious turbo chicken for lunch.

I love surprises and would really prefer not to know what I would get for my birthday and Christmas but right now, I am pleasantly aware of what AD would give me for Xmas 2010- a 2011 Moleskine planner. Oh joy! We were in Fully Booked last Sunday, looking for a gift and there were those beautiful moleskine planners near the entrance. She asked me which one was it that I like ☺ Really thought she wouldn't get it for me because it's pricey. She will and I'm superdupermegaover happy!

Spent the entire afternoon in mommy's room- sleeping, watching tv and playing Cooking Dash. Suddenly, I missed my childhood when we would all watch ASAP in our parents' bedroom. I can't imagine how all seven of us fit inside that room. Laid-back Sunday ♥

Monday calls for Method Mastery
Started my day earlier than usual and headed off to my lash perming & extension seminar. After six hours- et voila- I can perm and do lash extensions! Didn't really want to do this and was reluctant to do this but what a pleasant surprise. I've always been hesitant to try new things but when I do, I always find myself liking it afterwards.  I can't wait to do it. Must practice. Practice makes perfect. Perfection is what I seek. After all, I am a Virgo ;) Excited nako!!!!

movie marathon mondays!

I have this goal to watch 100 movies in 2010 and so far I've only seen 52 movies which means 48 more movies to go. With only a little over 100 days before the year ends, I need to watch 48 movies. So I declare Mondays as movie marathon day to meet my target. Three movies today:

Movie #1: Bride Wars
I've heard so many bad reviews over this film that didn't even bother seeing it when it first came out. Last week, my bro-in-law bought a copy and I'm in dire need of regular dose of chick flicks.

You know what, not bad actually. Or maybe I was expecting it to be so bad that I find it good. Whatever the case may be, I enjoyed this movie.

One thing about American movies- why is marriage a big deal when they're already living under the same roof, sharing a bed and are practically doing what married couples do? WHY? If it's just for the mere reason that they get to don poofy white dresses... sorry I don't get the point.

Movie #2: Julie & Julia
Another pleasant surprise for me. This DVD has been on my stash for MONTHS! Heard it's good but I'm not into cooking and all that domesticated goddess shizz that I passed on in this fun movie.

I love Meryl Streep in this one. I always see her in serious roles and this makes me see her in a new light and my gosh she's one good actress. And Amy Adams- this movie made me see her in a different way and not as that Tourette-ish princess from Enchanted.

If there's one thing I've learned from this movie, it it Moderation is key. Yes, do that one thing that is your source of joy but there's also this thing called too much. When it starts becoming an obsession it starts feeling like a chore, then there comes a point when we don't enjoy doing it anymore or we start feeling bad because it doesn't make us feel good or happy like it used to. And another thing- having idols and why it's better not meeting them at all. We usually put our idols on a pedestal and we have these ideals of how they're supposed to be and if we do meet them and realize they're NOT what we thought they were, then we're in for a major disappointment. Admiring from afar is advisable.

Movie #3: The Blind Side
The movie which won Sandra Bullock her Oscar, around the same time she found out her husband is cheating on her with a tattooed freak. Back then, I didn't watch it because I thought I don't want to watch a movie just because everyone else was watching. Plus, football and wowowee-ish sob stories don't really appeal to me. Or so I thought...

Another pleasant surprise. So sorry for judging this movie even before I watched it. It definitely wasn't a sob story. Albeit, it was a story of success. Really heartwarming and reminded me of the bahay ampunan story I heard last Saturday. And this movie is based on a true story which makes it even better.

Maybe it really takes someone to believe in you for you to believe in yourself, too. Also, it helps that this someone has a kind heart. There are a lot of kids like Mike Oher but he's lucky he has someone like Leigh Ann Touhy who believed that he is capable of great things. This made me believe again in the goodness in people.

Just felt it was a bit Erin Brokovich-ish. Anyway, I love it just the same.

Are these movies really tearjerkers or I'm just emo these days? What's wrong with me? Argh. I hope new GG episode, How I Met Your Mother and Chuck season premieres tomorrow will cure me of my emo-itis.

45 movies to go...

pick flick: letters to juliet

Letters to Juliet download became available only recently. Even if Armida raved about this a month ago, was able to download a copy only today and also because of Juno's recommendation. But before Juno's recommendation, I already wanted to get myself a copy when Armida said it's a must-see movie for hopeless romantics. Not exactly a hopeless romantic here, hopeless lang.

Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) plays a fact-checker who lives in New York. She goes on a pre-wedding honeymoon (?) with chef boyfriend Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal) who is very passionate with his craft. So they went to Italy and found themselves doing their own thing in what's supposed to be their time together. Sophie finds herself in a tourist sight- the supposed house of Juliet of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. She helped this group of women who claim to be "Juliet's secretaries" who wrote back to all those heartbroken girls who posted their love problems below Juliet's balcony, by replying to this one letter which was written 50 years ago. Claire (Vanessa Redgrave), the one who wrote that letter 50 years ago, comes to Italy to take another chance on love with the one that got away, Lorenzo Bartolini. But his grandon Charlie (Chris Egan) wasn't so happy about this...

Oo nga, perfect for hopeless romantics for this movie makes us believe in love. Letters to Juliet makes us believe in destiny, that the powers of the universe will conspire to make it happen. As with Sophie and Charlie's case, even if they started on the wrong foot, things still unfolded the way as it should be- which was to make them fall in love with each other. Sabi na nga ba, ang mga nagtatarayan sa umpisa, usually sila din nagkakatuluyan.

Italy is such a beautiful country! How I wish I could visit Italy someday... And also I'm envious of their cities. How I also wish Metro Manila would become a pedestrian city! I would love to go around the city thru walking. And that would be hitting two birds with one stone- 1) good for our health; and, 2) we're helping the environment by not taking our fuel-powered automobiles.

However if Claire's true love is really Lorenzo, does this mean that she didn't really love Charlie's grandfather? Just a thought. This reminds me of Bridges of Madison County though. Speaking of Bridges of Madison County, I want to watch that movie again.

Such a cheeseball if you ask me, but all love stories are supposed to be cheesy. The story's cheesy enough. Add Taylor Swift's Love Story playing in the background, we've got one helluva cheesefest. But I like it :) I like cheesy. Makes me all giddy inside. Aamagin nako dito sa sobrang daming keso.

pick flick: an education

Recommended by AB, I downloaded this movie right away but that was a month ago. I still have this long list of unwatched DVDs and downloaded movies and An Education is in queue. Last Friday while I was in Shangri-la to watch Resident Evil 4, Cine Europa was also happening. I suddenly missed my AB- we watched Alles es Liefde and I Demoni di San Pietroburgo last year. Checked out the line-up for this year and saw An Education and that made me more curious about the movie.
An Education is about this smart, 16-year old girl who dreams of getting into Oxford. She then meets David, an man who is about twice her age. What do I think of relationships that have b-i-g age gaps? They say that age ain't nothing but a number but I think that it matters a lot, maybe when you're younger. Cos say you're 16, it sure is a big deal when you're dating a 26 year old guy. But when you're 40 and he's 50, the ten year age gap suddenly doesn't seem so big now, right? But when you're 16, I say stick with boys your age.

In the movie's case, I think that this kind of relationship robs Jenny off her innocence and I do believe that there are things that she should experience with boys her age. Not only David used his supposed maturity, but he also used his money to lure Jenny. He took her to places (ie. Paris) she could only dreamed of going and he took her to jazz clubs. She thought it was love but I think it was more of convenience masquerading as love.

Then again, we should consider that this was set in the 1960s when girl power wasn't the shizz. Like Jenny told her teacher, even if she gets into Oxford, she'd just end up a teacher and maybe being a teacher doesn't pay much and wouldn't allow her to enjoy all the luxuries that David has been giving her. So she threw away her dreams of a higher education and left school because she thought David was "it," David could provide her everything. Ergo, she doesn't need a fallback aka an education. But later on, Jenny finds out that in life there are no shortcuts.

If there is anything I learned from this movie, it is to rely on my own efforts and not depend on other people whether for my happily ever after or dream of being a bazillionaire. So there, looks like I would have to start working on my plans so I could be a landlady of leisure and not wait for someone who would sweep me off my feet and make me a shopping housewife.

pick flick: resident evil 4: afterlife

Choices were Despicable Me, Going the Distance and Resident Evil 4: Afterlife. I already saw Despicable Me. Armida saw Going the Distance. So I guess we're left with Resident Evil but then again original plan was watch Resident Evil. Apparently, my bff is a sucker for zombie movies and that fact I came to know about only recently even if we've been friends for 16 years.
  1. Milla Jovovich still looks beautiful and svelte even in her 30s (psssh! life is not fair). This is the first ever Resident Evil and Jovovich movie I've seen. I didn't expect much so there wasn't much room for disappointment. I enjoyed it, especially with its Matrix-esque effects. I was surprised A didn't like it that much. Then again, I don't have anything to compare it with not having seen the first three Resident Evil movies.
  2. Having been traumatized by Silent Hill, I have aversion towards movies based on video games. Maybe it really is better to not have expectations because I went in thinking it could be another lame zombie movie that I would so hit my head had I paid money for it (watched it for free! c/o A's handy-dandy pass). But you know what, I totally loved the suspense- "SA LIKOD!!!" Haha. I literally jumped off my seat! Though there wasn't much zombie action. Night of the Living Dead pa din.
  3. How come everyone suddenly knows kung fu or some other form of martial art? So now I know that when this happens I'd die for sure because I don't know any kung fu or karate. The zombies will surely eat my brains! Those will be one of those days when I wish I were born as a lawnmower. Ha!
  4. This is survival of the fittest, y'all! Notice how only the beautiful people made it alive??? Beautiful and knows kung fu.
  5. Though this movie is science fiction, I think it is possible. Humans play God. Yes, we want to find ways to improve quality of life and the shizz but we have to have limitations. I feel human cloning is just too much though I am clueless if this is already possible. If we play God, we change the natural order of things and we destroy the existing balance. I just think this could happen in the future.
  6. We could all deduce from the movie's ending that there would be a fifth installment and I'm so going to watch. Will borrow Resident Evil 1 to 3 from A.
Sleepy sleepy. Toodles ☺

pick flick: despicable me

Going to keep this short and sweet because I have a splitting headache.

Despicable Me is a nice and heartwarming movie. I did expect a little from this movie because people raved about it in reviews but not so much as to give me super high expectations.

Gru wants to be the best villain ever by stealing the moon and he does this with the help (unknown to them, though) of three orphan girls. At first, he just wants to use them but eventually he gets attached to them and starts acting like a dad to them. Really, really heartwarming. We find out that Gru's heart is in the right place and he only does this mean things to win the approval of his mother who seems to be unfazed by his heists.

Vector, the other villain, reminds me of Bo Sanchez. Yes, him, the preacher in blue jeans. Haha. Maybe it's the glasses. And he's such a geek! "Victor is my geeky name. I am Vector!" Umm, still geeky. Ha.

The kids are adorable I want to keep them in my pocket. And those little yellow creatures... I wanna keep them, too.

Gah! This movie is just oozing with kyootness! Yes, that's beyond cute because I just spelled it kyoot :P It's cuter than cute.

Done. I'm afraid I'm not making any sense anymore. Head aches.

pick flick: timer

If a clock could count down to the moment you meet your soul mate, would you want to know?

See, this is a dilemma actually. If you already know, where's the fun in that? But then again, I think I would also like the feeling of certainty.
  • If a device would tell you when exactly you would meet the one person you're destined to be with, would you get it? With NOT KNOWING, there's always the element of surprise which I think makes life exciting. With KNOWING, you will know beforehand whether there's someone out there for you (provided he has gotten himself a timer, too) and I always like that feeling of certainty. But the element of surprise is tempting. And since not everyone in the movie has a timer, what if the one you're destined to be with doesn't have one yet? And what if he never gets one? Do you take the chance or do you patiently wait?
  • Oooh, Gossip Girl connection! Uncle Jack is Dan and cute, younger boy Mikey is Aaron Rose. Uncle Jack/Dan is sooo much handsome when he's kind and not manyak-ish and Mikey/Aaron is so adorable playing non-stuck up characters.
Really like 'em scruffy, eh?
  • Not only does the timer gives you your "one true love," but it also spares you from heartaches and heartbreaks from people who aren't "the one." But then again, gone also are the little joys brought about by crushes and secret loves, gone are those butterflies-in-your-stomach feeling you get every time the object of your affection throws you a glance. And what do you do during that period when you haven't met him/her yet? Can't you love another in the meantime?

Sabi ko na nga ba I should've blogged about this movie right after I saw it because all of the other comments and stuff that came into mind are all gone by now. Anyway, this movie was such a pleasant surprise. Really didn't expect much from it. I'm happy I bought this because this pretty much is what I'm sort of preoccupied with as of late. Well, that and how to make bazillions of money. If such technology would be invented, I think I'd get one just because I would like to know whether or not I am destined to be in a relationship or in marital bliss or whatever. I. JUST. WANT. TO. KNOW. Because if I wasn't meant to have my own family, then there's no need to save up. I'll just use them all up and give myself one helluva freakintastic life!

pick flick: inception

Super na-intriga ako sa movie na ito. I must have seen a bazillion statuses on Facebook, raving about Inception. There was not a single rant. Not that I just want to get on the bandwagon but if this movie's really a good one, I think I shouldn't miss out on this one, see what's the fuss all about.

♥ Mis pensamientos sobre la peli, Inception
  1. I've heard some things about Inception already so I knew it was about dreams. I assumed maybe it would a little like What Dreams May Come or In Dreams, surreal. Yes, it was surreal but not like the two movies I've mentioned. I was expecting colorful graphics but it was dark, actually. I loved it, nonetheless. It was different from what I expected but I loved it.
  2. Yes, I've already concocted in my mind as to how this movie would be and because of people's ravings about it made me expect A LOT. You know me and my expectations. I should've have known better than to assume. I should've have held on all expectations. Siguro kung hindi ako masyado nagpadala sa mga supermegafragilistic-ravings ng mga tao, I would consider this movie as really really good. It was an okay movie for me, though. Dang those FB ravers. They ruined Inception for me. Though I may not consider Inception as one of the greats unlike others, I still loved and enjoyed watching it.
  3. How I would love to be Ellen Page in this movie! Two reasons: 1) she got to be surrounded by good-looking men, and 2) she got kissed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Gah!
  4. Speaking of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I am totally digging him right now. I used to hate him during his 3rd Rock From the Sun days, thought he was okay in 10 Things I Hate About You but loved him come 500 Days of Summer. He's not the best-looking actor there is in Hollywood but man, I totally have the hots for this bloke. I am so looking forward to his other movies. My gosh, I still can't shake of his image, sleeping and smiling inside that van. **sigh**
  5. And who would have ever thought Leonardo di Caprio would go this far? I really didn't think so. I thought he'd be one of those teenybopper idols who'd be laos right away. I'm glad I was wrong because he's a brilliant actor and he's starred in many good movies such as Catch Me If You Can, The Departed, Inception and will watch Shutter Island after I'm done with my Dexter season 1 marathon.
  6. I like movies that make me think as much as movies that make my brain cells rest. Although I am not 100% sure that I "got" the movie. I think I got it but I am not so sure if I did. Haha. I guess everyone's entitled to their own take on the ending. It got a little confusing lang sometimes because it's a dream within a dream within a dream. Even I don't know what's reality anymore! This movie reminds me of Identity.
  7. Why would people want to stay in their dreams? I'd rather be living in my reality than be stuck in a fake world, right? Even if I can only be with l'amour de ma vie in my dreams, I'd still choose what's real over my make-believe. Or subconscious. Wherever that is. Of course there are some dreams I would want to stay longer in like that dream I had a month ago but I would also want to snap back to reality. Siguro pag feeling mo nananaginip ka lang, gising ka talaga. Parang pag feeling mo nasisira na ulo mo, nasa tamang pag-iisip ka pa din. Huh?
  8. Now that I've seen Inception, I'm kinda scared to dream now. It gave me this notion that I could get stuck in my dreams and die in my sleep. Oooh, that reminds me of bangungot! Like for example when I was a kid, I was told to never sleep on an empty stomach because my soul would get hungry, look for food and would get stuck inside the kalan or the ref and then I would die. I wouldn't want to die in my sleep. I'd feel betrayed if I did because it would mean that death crept up on me and caught me unaware and didn't even give me a chance to make the most of what's left of my life.
  9. And have I told you about my aversion to open-ended endings? Although sometimes I would like to watch movies that requires brain cells, I still prefer that they give me definite endings. I don't care whether it's happy or sad, just give me a definite ending! I love happy endings. I love sad endings. I sorta hate open-ended ones. Nag-iisip nako the entire duration of the movie, please don't make me think even after the movie ends. It's too much for my brain cells to take...

    My thoughts exactly.

pick flick: sorry if i love you

This one has been sitting in my Downloads folder for the longest time. I think I found out about it via tumblr, as usual. Needed to clear my hard drive of big files and since this file 700MB, I decided to watch it already and then erase it. I have it on CD but the subs won't play on TV. Having busted speakers, I had to go to a nearby mall to get me some cheap speakers, ketchup-flavored chips and Royal Grape and I'm good to go... on my movie date with myself. Ha.

What I Love/Hate About Sorry If I Love You:
(+) Beautiful cast. Had this movie turned out to be bad, just watching these beautiful people chatter noisily is good enough. Italian men are ¡muy caliente! and I'm jealous of how gorgeous these Italian women are! Those arms! How I wish I could have arms that thin. I'm envious!
(+/-) May-December love affair. Honestly, I don't know what to make of it. Alex and Niki have a 20-years age difference. He's 37 and she's 17. I doubt that such relationship will ever work in real life. I'd like to believe in love and be a hopeless romantic but I think I would have to go skeptic on this one. As much as I'd like to play an optimist here and say that age ain't nothing but a number, sometimes it really does matter. Especially, if you were born more than a decade apart from each other. It could work but it would take an awful lot of work.
(-) We have a term for men like Alex. D.O.M. which stands for Dirty Old Men. But since he's one stud muffin, we can skip the label.
When a story ends, the pain is proportional
to the beauty of the love experienced.

Pick Flick: Knight and Day

Fun movie ☺ Choice was actually between Karate Kid and this. Obviously, Knight and Day won, the only criterion being something that wouldn't put me to sleep. We opted for the one with more action since Karate Kid might be full of chit chat.

What I Love/Hate About Knight and Day:

  • (+) A good action movie once in a while is good. I know I gravitate towards rom-coms and tearjerkers but I also need a regular dose of cliffhangers and whathaveyous. The last time I must have watched an action movie was last year when I watched The International with AD's handy dandy movie passes.
  • (+) Cameron Diaz... What can I say, we share the same... surname! Haha. The age is showing but she still has a kick-ass body and can still rock a bikini. Definitely one of my favorite actresses because she's not afraid to look foolish. And I do think she's not trying hard to hold on to her youth since she's accepting mother roles now (The Box, Lovely Bones) but if I'm a mom and I still look like that? Dayum! I'd wear a bikini even when I'm doing the laundry.
  • (+/-) Tom Cruise. I used to like and swoon over Tom Cruise ca. Jerry Maguire and all that "you complete me" mush. But come Katie Holmes and couch-jumping on Oprah, I reckon he's too weird na. Overacting, much? The age is showing as with Diaz, but with Cruise, I get the vibe that he's still trying to hold on to what's left of his youth. But guess what, I found him okay here.
  • (-) Owwws?? moments. Well, I think the same goes for most movies. Who comes out of a plane crash, a helicopter crash and a car chase unscathed? Even John Casey gets injured once in awhile. Oh c'mon, there's got to be some bruise or cut somewhere there and I'm not talking about that gunshot wound... I want to see bugbog-sarado! Black eye! The works! Eh after all that explosion and near-death experiences, gwapo pa din? Eh yung iba diyan, nag-Divisoria lang, nanglilimahid na!

(+) Reminded me of Chuck. I miss Chuck.

Super fun movie. I can't wait 'til my next movie with AD- Eat Pray Love.

Pick Flick: Beauty & the Briefcase, Working Girls

    Beauty & the Briefcase

I already know how this one's going to end but still watched it since I'm a sucker for movies like this and I adore Hilary Duff back when she was still Lizzie McGuire.
Didn't like it and feel it was too ditzy (emphasis on too), and that's coming from me- a lover of ditzy movies. I want to believe that not everyone who works at Cosmo or any fashion magazine for that matter is as shallow and ditzy like McGuire's character. I may have been able to sit through the movie cos I find Tom cute.

    Working Girls
This was shown in the cinemas the same time as Here Comes The Bride. Here Comes the Brides, FTW! As in no competition here. I don't get the point of this movie. Masyadong scattered and story, the connection among the characters was too contrived. Sumakit ata ulo ko doon. If there's a Best Actress in a Promo Girl Role category in Famas, Anne Curtis would definitely beat Cristine Reyes.

Pick Flick: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Watched with A and M at Shang. It's been a while since we saw last M and we had a blast catching up. One thing I'm thankful for is having friends that aren't high maintenance at all. We could, like, see each other once a year but still don't lose that connection. Back to Eclipse...

If it were me, I would wait for it on video. Honestly, I've outgrown my Edward Cullen/RPattz stage. But M sent A and me a message and asked if we want to watch Eclipse together. Sayang naman ang chance to get together so never mind that I would have to endure 1.5 hours of KStew.

Eight Things I Hate/Love About Eclipse:
    • (-) KStew. Seriously, why does she always have that pained expression on her face. If I were her and I was Edward Cullen's jowa, I'll be happy for eternity. For. Eternity.
    • (-) Fell asleep twice. Actually, still unsure if that was a good or a bad thing. I was a having a terrible headache so it wasn't entirely because of the movie. Funny how I woke up during that scene where Edward was proposing to Bella and I really thought I had missed on all the action (not that kind of action, what I mean is when Edward beat the (un)living daylights out of Victoria. Buti na lang hindi pa pala. Whew!
    • (+) I'm not that much of a rabid Twilight and RPattz fan as I was two years ago but I can still take whatever kakornihan RPattz does. He can sparkle all he want and wear that red lipstick but still be smexxy as hell.
    • (-) We were wondering why they replaced Rachelle Lefevre with Bryce Dallas Howard? I swear Lefevre was more effective being Victoria. M said she's distracted with Howard's hair, it was so obviously fake as opposed to Lefevre's. For me, Howard's acting seemed theatrical. Isang movie na lang with Victoria, sana through and through si Rachelle Lefevre na lang.
    • (+) Me likey the pack ;) Hunkfest, y'all! I'm not much of a Jacob Black fan because I find his thick neck distracting and my loyalty belongs to Sparkle Boy.
    • (+) "Doesn't he own a shirt?" ROTFL. So our favorite undead has some sense of humor left in him? That's Edward complaining about Jacob's so-out-there abs.
    • (+) I ♥ Charlie Swan.
    • (-) Seriously, I find the Volturi disturbing. They don't walk. They glide! I'm disturbed by anything that glides.
The movie was okay lang. Super hyped up, in my opinion (D'oh!). Actually, I'm looking forward to Breaking Dawn. I can't believe myself, really. I didn't get to finished reading listening to the audio book so I wanna watch to know how this cheese/emofest of a book concluded.

    Pick Flick: Toy Story 3

I love love love this movie! Never mind that I almost didn't watch it cos I thought I've had enough of these Toy Story movies. We were supposed to watch it on 3D, courtesy of mommy, but we didn't make it to the 3:25 screening to we had to settle for 2D. Anyway, it wouldn't have mattered because it was AWESOME!

What a tearjerker this movie was! I tried stifling my cries that's why I hate watching movies that make me cry in the cinemas- I always get a debilitating headache, trying to hold back the tears. I'm now convinced that toys have feelings, too :P

"The idea is to let go."
    - Hamm, Toy Story 2

I've read reviews and most people cried during the last 30 minutes; whereas, I got teary-eyed just a few minutes into it. If I remember it correctly, it was when they tried to make Andy notice them by calling his cellphone. I swear if I were watching here in my room, I would have been bawling already. Good thing it's also filled with light, funny moments, not entirely heavy. My most favorite part to which I can relate to was when Andy brought his toys to Bonnie's. For the last time before he leaves for college, while he introduces them one by one to Bonnie, he plays with them for the last time. He asks Bonnie to promise to take care of his toys because they mean a lot to him and as he walks back to his car, he takes a last look at his toys and says, "Thanks, guys!" Waaaah! I miss my ate who's in NY. She's my Andy and I'm her Woody ☺Although, we're still going to see each other, which reminds me to start saving up for that NY trip so I could see her sooner.

Can't wait to dl this on torrents though I'm actually considering on watching it again on 3D but then again, there's my NY trip I have to save up for and every little peso counts. Toy Story 3 isn't made for little kids, it's made for those who were little kids when Toy Story 1 and 2 first came out, as some sort of closure. Ha. I wanna watch again!!!!!

    Pick Flick: When In Rome

Run-of-the-mill rom-com. Except maybe that it has Josh Duhamel in it but almost all rom-coms have the cutest man candies in them.

    1. When In Rome used the ol' trusty formula for romantic comedies- Cynical Girl swears off men for eternity, suddenly meets Cute Guy and in a split-second they hit it off. Cynical Girl falls for Cute Guy but then finds out that Cute Guy is involved with someone else, and so forth and so on.

    2. Modern fairy tale, complete with magic. Although I believe that magic should be left to animated and fantasy movies, I could say that it was fun watching this one. Of course, I wouldn't go on believing that wishing on the Trevi fountain would bring me luck in love. Hmm, come to think of it, Beth (Kristen Bell) didn't throw a coin and make a wish and yet she found reel love.

    3. "Kapag guapo may crush sayo, secret admirer ang tawag. Kapag pangit, stalker." ROFL. And this movie just proves that. She avoided and ran from all those weirdos who pursued her, while she didn't do the same when it comes to Nick (Josh Duhamel). Biased talaga ang mundo sa mga magaganda at guapo. Unfair.

    4. I love it how the movies can glamorize even the most boring stuff on earth. I can never imagine how being an art curator could be exciting. Every time I pass by those art galleries in malls, those art curators always seem to be bored out of their wits. Well, I don't know if those people are considered art curators. And also, how could one make a career of it?

Pick Flick: Prince of Persia (Sands of Time)

Free movie again, this time c/o Armida and her handy, dandy movie pass. We watched in Shangri-la and the only choices were Prince of Persia and Shrek. I like Shrek more but I haven't seen the third Shrek movie yet so til then, I would have to put off watching the fourth and final installment. So Prince of Persia it was...

Three Things about Prince of Persia:
    1. I don't like Jake Gyllenhaal!!! I find him madungis :( They could have gotten someone more guapo. In fernez naman, he's a good actor. Armida says his role as Dastan compensated for his ka-brokeback-an in Brokeback Mountain.

    2. Action-packed but dragging as well.

    3. Mabuhangin.

Short and sweet. I have nothing else to say.
