PROJECT 100: You Again and Flipped

Yay! Watched two movies to start off my little movie goal project for 2011 and both are good, in my opinion.

You Again
Enjoyed the movie although the audio was sucky. It was obvious that it was recorded from a cinema since there were people laughing with me.
I would absolutely throw a fit if I find out that my brother is marrying the girl who bullied me during high school! But then again will it really matter ten or 15 years later? Hell, yeah! Well, but people do change and who knows, maybe they've really had a change of heart. But I would tell my brother about it immediately, to his face and not through some underhanded means which requires an audience. Marni (Kristen Bell) not only embarrassed Joanna/ J.J. Clark (Odette Yustman), her HS dementor, but she also hurt his brother's feelings. Gail (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Aunt Ramona (Sigourney Weaver) were in a similar position, only they started out as best friends. How small could their world get?

But I noticed that even if Marni and Aunt Ramona were the "successful" ones, they both feel an emptiness. Unlike with Gail and Joanna, who have seemed to find their raison d'etre. And even if Marni and Aunt Ramona seemed better off (financially or career-wise), deep inside they wanted what their nemeses have. Sabagay, success is relative.

Ten-year old insecurities coming out! Even if it was already eons ago, Marni still can't move on from the fact that Joanna used to make school a living hell for her. And even if she's this bigwig now, she still feels insecure around her. I guess it's true what they say, Nobody can make you feel insecure without your consent.

Flipped
I can't concentrate on my You Again post because I just watched this beautiful movie, Flipped, and I've truly flipped head over heels in love with it.

♥  Got this off from tumblr (again!) and I'm more in love with tumblr now. Even if tumblr eats up a big chunk of my time even though I shouldn't be spending that much time on it, I swear I'm not giving it up anytime soon because most of the awesome stuff I've come to know about I got from tumblr. For example, (500) Days of Summer and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
♥  Totally no expectations with this one even if I've read tumblr people rave about it. I was delightfully surprised :-)
♥  It really pays to listen to both sides of a story. I think it's just genius to tell the story from both the points of view of Juli and Bryce. From there, we deduced that Juli isn't crazy at all (yes, she sniffs Bryce but that was back in second grade. but everyone else was weird during the second grade) and Bryce is really an assuming jerk.
♥  How apt the title is, ya? Flipped can be taken in two ways in the movie. First, it is how Juli flipped over Bryce when she first saw him. Flipped (slang) defined by dictionary.com as to react to something in an excited, astonished, or delighted manner. And the second kind of flip, which was when there was a reversal of roles- when Juli starts to think that maybe Bryce wasn't all that as she used to think of him and Bryce, on the other hand, starts to like Juli. Karma's a bitch.

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" is a recurring theme all throughout the film. Juli liked Bryce the first time she saw him because of his "dazzling eyes" and from then on she's smitten as a kitten. But now they're older and guided by the principle that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, Juli is learning to see things from a different perspective and she now knows better than to only focus on Bryce's baby blues. I guess I have to learn my lesson from Juli. I should focus on the whole. I like the nose. Only the nose because I don't even frickin' know him. So maybe I should really quit it, ya?
♥  I'm so in ♥ with idea of young love. Haay.. Things I have missed out on... Haha. Anyway, I'm so in love with this movie- such a feel-good story that I'm glad I have serendipitously found on tumblr.
first time they met, Juli was already smitten

and 6 years after, Bryce realizes that he, too, has flipped over Juli

Started the project with two nice movies and one of them has got to be one of the most highly pleasurable experiences I've encountered, in real and reel life.
