week 7: the week i let karma do its magic

I lost my faith in Chinese horoscope. In the first place, I think I shouldn't actually be even wasting my time reading it. Sabi kasi 2011 is going to be my year and February is one of the best months of the year, eh parang such prediction doesn't hold true.

Valentine's Day! Umm, not that I really care. Started my day early with a delivery in Fort. Went with Nonoy to do mommy's errands. Cinderella's Sister marathon.

♥Tuesday♥
Walked going to the printer to give AD's files for printing. As usual, I didn't go to the shop again. I reckon there's too much bad energy there for me to want to stay there. Seriously, I need to find new people because the employees right now are bringing too much drama in there. Rode the LRT going to Anonas to meet AD so we could go ukay. We weren't able to get anything except dibidis- Mean Girls 2, Gulliver's Travels, Black Swan and Due Date. AD treated me to cheeseburger and nacho at Mama Chit's in Marikina. And by the way, this is the day I went cold turkey. So far so good.

Decluttered the room and went on with my Cinderella's Sister marathon.

♥Thursday♥
Finally finished my Cinderella Unni marathon! Loved this series to bits... and also Chun Jung-myung oppa ;) Went to the shop to do some manning duties and also permed someone's lashes. I really wish I could find good people for my shop. Too much drama, especially other people's drama, is emotionally draining. Why can't they just go to work, do their work properly and then go home LIKE I DO. You treat them nicely and go the extra mile when it comes to other stuff that isn't work-related and then they betray you. Well, karma's a bitch. I just wish everyone the karma that they deserve.

Helped with AD's booth set-up in Megamall for the bridal fair. Lunch with AD and her friend, Kit. AD treated me to lunch and also to frozen yogurt. Spent most of the day handing out flyers. I now remember why I always take flyers given me- cos it sure sucks having people ignore you or refuse taking your flyer even if done with a smile.


♥Saturday♥
El Fili 3rd meeting. Me and my compañeras went to Chocolate Kiss for lunch. I had beef caldereta and rice, then devil's food cake for dessert. It was alright. Not as spectacular as expected. Ayan kasi, sabi nga 'Lower your expectations.' After lunch, hitched a ride with Joji going to Rockwell. Finally got my BE Multi-tasking Minerals. Also bought funda but they didn't have it on hand so they're going to deliver it to my house, supposedly, yesterday. It's not yet here. Went to Megamall again to meet with AC. AC treated me to coffee and we window-shopped till 9pm. Was supposed to hitch a ride with AD going home but her car's battery went dead cos she left the lights on. Ate dinner then coffee again, to kill time. Para maiba naman, I ordered Caramel Macchiato. Bag of Beans' was better. V and the kids are back at home! J1 slept in our bed :)

J1 woke me up verrry early in the morning. New househelps arrived but these househelps looked very suspicious. Went to Megamall again to meet with cousins and because mommy wanted to see AD's booth and also to treat us to merienda/dinner. Pollo Loco again after a long time then coffee again. Calories galore! Didn't go to mass.

Looked like a good week, right? Well, it was a relatively good week only there were some news that one of my employees was doing 'part-time' work for another shop just like ours which happens to be located also inside the village. The face, diba? Ayun nga, I'm letting karma take care of them. It will get them one way or another. Maybe not now but eventually it will get them.

Because I've gone cold turkey last Tuesday, I easily found my replacement ☺ Well, yeah, we're back to crushing on Korean actors and pop stars although I'm sticking to actors this time around. After watching Cinderella's Sister, I'm so smitten with ya, oppa ;)

I'm just happy that I found something (or is it someone?) to make things expedient. I wanna watch What's Up, Fox again!

Cinderella's Sister

Oh my, it's been six months since I last watched a Korean drama/series. Well, I've been avoiding getting hooked on a series, be it US or Korean, since it eats up most of my time. Ako pa naman ay medyo mahina ang EQ pagdating sa ganyan- Once you pop, you can't stop nga, diba? But for this one, I blame ABS-CBN. Since they show Cinderella's Sister very very late and I get very impatient waiting for it, I decided to buy a copy.

A modern twist to a classic fairy tale, only the protagonist isn't "Cinderella."

Having to live with a mother (Song Kang sook) who has switched men a million times, Eun jo's childhood traumatized her in a way that she doesn't get attached to people or things. But with a simple twist of fate, their lives crossed paths with Hyo-seon/Brianna and her father, Dae Seong.

Already without a mother, Hyo-seon who is looking for a mother-figure sees it in Song Kang-sook. Kang sook seeing this as an opportunity for her and her daughter Eun jo to live conveniently, she grabbed this chance.

Hyo-seon was very much excited with their new family, their new set-up. But Eun jo always had this thinking that they wouldn't last in there, that some day she and her mom would run away just like they did before. Albeit the warm welcome and kindness her stepfather and Hyo seon was giving her, she rejected all these. Scared to give her heart away and risk having it hurt, she chose to shut people out of her life, except for one- Ki hoon/Timothy.

Eun-jo: “It’s strange. It feels really strange. The way he talks, I’d want to believe him even if he said the moon were square.

With a face that cute, I would also believe him if he told me the moon were square. Ki hoon was the reason she didn't run away from Dae Seong Cham Do Ga. It was unspoken but both of them knew that they were both special to each other. Foreign to this new feeling, she still put up a front and didn't give her heart to him. She was devastated when Ki hoon left without even saying anything to her.

Fast forward to 8 years after...


After finding out about the betrayal, Dae seong suffered a second attack which led to his death. Kang sook, who realized that she has learned to love Dae seong after his first attack, was distraught. Hyo seon was mourning for her father's death. Eun jo, too, was bereaved for the death of the man who believed and never gave up on her but she didn't want to show it. Ki hoon was feeling mournful and guilty. Everyone was hurting. Every. One.

“It hurts when I don’t see him, and when I do. It hurts whether he’s here, or whether he’s not. Hurts whether he smiles at me, or smiles at someone else. Hurts whether he calls my name, or doesn’t. As long as I don’t disappear into the earth, I think I’ll continue to feel hurt, Jung-woo, but still, being here is better. Being able to see him and hate him is better than him not being here.”

It was like I was also in this story- crying my eyes out with matching hikbi pa. I swear I don't get it why these people complicate their lives. Well, I wouldn't know haha. And I think it's good that I don't. I don't know if I wanna know. I loved each and every one of the characters, how they evolved and shaped by the events in their lives.

What I like about this drama is it's not only about love, it's about relationships between sisters, mother and daughters, husband and wife, father and daughters and WAITING. If you wait and don't give up on a person, things might turn out for the best. I like waiting. It could be torturous but I like it. And in this story, after eight long years, everything turned out for the best. Dae seong didn't die in vain. It was all part of a grander plan.

As with classic fairy tales, it had a happy ending. I just loved it that it had an ending. I was browsing the net and I read someone's comment that it was open-ended and she was hoping for a part 2. I was preparing myself for not having an ending-ending to this story and I just abhor open-ended stories. I don't care whether it's sad or happy. Just give me an ending. Capisce?

I LOVE EEEET!!! This is why I love Korean dramas... they feel real. And it would seem as if you're feeling what the characters are feeling in that moment. Cathartic, it is. Plus the theme songs, waaah! Yes I can feel your pain, stab me with a rusty spoon why don't you...

week 6: the week when i ate till i can eat no more

I used to hate Mondays when it used to be the first day of school then work. But now that Mondays mean I have the day off and all to myself and I could do anything and everything that I want sans guilt, I began to fall in love with it. Anyway... I was able to do some work-related stuff like call the courier for pick up of an order, send labels for approval and massage tutorial with Nene. Watched Eat Pray Love and The Social Network.

Honestly, I can remember what I did that day. If I remember correctly, I stayed home to take care of my sick sister. I stayed home rubbing the tummy my sister sick with dysmenorrhea.

♥Wednesday♥
Early morning train ride going to supplier. Savemore will be the death of me I swear. With the proliferation of accessible Savemore groceries, I'll be wasting money more often. Groceries, bookstores and hardware stores have that effect on me- they make me want to spend even if it's just a pen or chichirya. When I go in, I must buy something. Went to Rome to start working on an order.

Went to the printer's to pick up labels. Spent the rest of the day cutting labels, sticking them on bottles then packing the stuff together. Product pictorial to put on my business blog. Worked on another order- Tartine et Chocolate cologne and Olive room & linen spray. I love doing these stuff I could do this forever~



♥Friday♥
Delivery day. Because Nonoy was not available, I had to take a cab going to Tiendesitas. Not too convenient but it was okay. Hung out at Starbucks Silver City (Tiendesitas) and waited for client to pick up. Read a book while I had lunch. Just realized now that I hit three birds with one stone that day- had lunch, finished a book and made a delivery. Waited for AD to fetch me. Had merienda at McDo.

Saturday morning routine ♥ How I missed this even if I still get cranky having to wake up at 6am. Fun class. It's always nice to learn something new. Shangri-la with A after class. Lunch at Pho Hoa. Was able to coax her to transfer malls and watch My Valentine Girls. Dinuguan and bbq meal at Goldilocks after the movie. I hate it that I'm always hungry :( I was really conflicted whether or not to buy Cinderella's Sister DVD. I did.

Early morning drama c/o mi madre. Lunch-out at A Veneto in Hypermart. Joaquim's so so so adorable (and naughty na din). Bbq and chichirya for merienda. Started my Cinderella's Sister marathon. Once you pop, you can't stop!

Project 100: My Valentine Girls

Guilty pleasure time! Lakwatsa day today with BFF Armida. I already texted her yesterday if we could watch this movie and she asked if this was the one with Eugene Domingo in it. Thank God Eugene Domingo is in it or else I would watch it alone. No, I won't be caught dead watching a baduy movie ALONE. At least I need an accomplice. A fall guy. Haha. We had lunch in Shang and since Shangri-la cinemas don't show baduy movies (except John Lloyd movies which, in my opinion, aren't baduy), we walked all the way to Megamall to watch My Valentine Girls. OMG, I'm such a fangirl (which A doesn't know. guilty pleasure nga eh)

A's MTRCB card already expired but thanks to Citibank's subsidized movie passes. But the movie cost 180 bucks... quite expensive to think that this is in Megamall and a local, baduy movie (and not even John Lloyd film). But what the heck... Three stories in one movie, kinda like Shake Rattle & Roll, cursi version.

1. In the first story, Soulmates, there were inconsistencies such as how was Rhian able to hail and ride a cab when she herself is supposedly a "ghost." Why do things pass right through Richard but not Rhian?
2. Also in Soulmates, can someone please explain how one date to Enchanted Kingdom make two people soul mates? I mean, they were not even humans when their 'date' happened. Eto ang hindi ko magets sa movies, how could spending one day or night kahit sabihin pang one whole day yan eh magfa-fall in love truly, madly, deeply na kayo with each other? 
3. In Soulmates still. Don't you find it funny that their houses are empty. Their rooms are empty. Hell, even their closets are empty. Mas mukha pang bahay ang ospital. 
4. In the second story BBF... I may be a bit biased because I'm a Solenn fan. Gosh, I still can't believe I'm admitting that here. Anyway, it's your run-of-the-mill best friends who are secretly in love with each other story. Wala man lang a little something extra. Though this story could have been much better without Lovi Poe in it. Kelangan ba talagang ganun magsalita? Sheesh.
5. A asked why does short skirts look okay on Rhian but looks skimpy and slutty on Lovi? 
6. Still on BBF. That shooting incident seemed off. Do they really have to include that there. They could've done without it, imo. At kung nasa tama kang ulirat, you wouldn't somewhere there's a fight. Kung anu-t-ano pa man, that scene's just plain stupid.
7. The last story, Gunaw, was the redeeming factor of the trilogy. Just as I thought I already grew tired of Eugene Domingo's acting, she proved me wrong. A and I were laughing our heads off. Wait, I think we were laughing our heads off during that chanting scene. Kung matupad nga naman ang wish mo, ano? Kinabog ng scene na ito ang isang episode ng Kristine dahil sa dami ng half-naked boys!
8. Gunaw reminded me of the Walking Dead but with horrendous prosthetic because their zombies didn't look like zombies at all. They looked like burnt victims. And not that I'm taking this seriously but their zombies are pretty fast moving. Meron pa kamong nagma-marathon!
9. Here's the shocker: in the middle of the third story, the screen went black and the lights were turned on. Then I saw security guards going inside the cinema. I was panicking already cos I thought there was some sort of emergency or whatever tapos the people started screaming. Turned out the actors paid a visit! There was Richard Gutierrez, Solenn Heusaff and Lovi Poe and that tiyanak there in front of the cinema. They just wanted to thank everyone who's watching and that we tell our friends to watch also. Galing ng style ha. 
10. In fairness to GMA Films, their film title didn't come from a song. They could have easily named it Suddenly It's Magic or I Feel So Free It's Like A Fantasy. Well, it's not really creative and original but still A for effort. Though ang pangit ng musical scoring (parang galing sa ilalim ng lupa ang music) at ng editing (transition from one scene to another wasn't smooth, kumbaga sa cellphone call, choppy). Sorry, but my heart still belongs to Star Cinema when it comes to local rom-coms.

Now we know why the movie is more expensive- may special appearance kasi ng mga artista. By the way, speaking of artistas, I saw Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero in Shangri-la. Also Gabby Eigenmann. Then Richard G, Solenn and Lovi in the cinema.

booktrack 2011-03: Dirty Dancing: Looking Back 2

Ever since, one of my favorite subjects in school was History. Even if the teaching methods employed by most of my History were the usual memorization of names, places and most especially dates, I still enjoyed it pretty much. Maybe I'm just a history geek at heart (and I'm proud of it). I read Ocampo's first Looking Back book and I enjoyed it and was the reason why I bought Book 2. And since I'm also chismosa, history + chismis = HAPPY HISTORY GEEK ☺ I'm also happy with the purchase since it's only 95 bucks. What a steal! 

Very, very interesting read. If you're into history and also culture na rin (since history shaped our culture), this is very fun and informative. History is much more enjoyable if we know the back stories, the intrigues, the drama behind all those dates and this book (along with other Ambeth Ocampo books) will give you just that- from Aguinaldo's time to the Beatlemania. 

Next book on the list: Why We Love by Helen Fisher Nothing But You: Love Stories from The New Yorker Back to Helen Fisher's Why We Love. Just because it's Valentine season. 

excuses excuses

It's Friday once again. My oh my how time flies! I promised last week that starting this week, I'll be doing my manning duties but looks like I broke that promise again. I have a valid reason for skipping on shop duties though- I had an order to work on. But really I need to step it up. I have to work on my time management skills.

On the brighter side of things, I made the delivery today ☺ Whoopee! Pick up of the order was in Tiendesitas. I was there from 1230 till 6pm! And 5 hours and a half, most of the time I was eating- coffee, sandwich, fries and coke and a box of nerds. AD fetched me in Hypermart then we had merienda in Mcdo. Pano naman ako papayat sa lagay na yan? But I was also able to finish the book I was reading today :)

There's so much fulfillment I feel every time I finish working on an order. I take pride on my works of art, my babies. I hope this year I'll be working on MORE! Seriously, I can be working on orders, on my feet for 12 hours a day and still feel good after. Tired but fulfilled... and happy.

Fili day in the morning and then meeting up with A after class. We will be watching My Valentine Girls. So sue me! Haha. After watching Survivor Celebrity ed. I am a Solenn fan. She's so pretty and, like her, I wanna learn how to do make up. Bad reviews for the film, actually, but I wanna see for myself. It's free naman so okay lang siguro if ever this movie really sucks.

OMG. 4 days till I go cold turkey. Parang I'm not yet ready.
