endings

Nope, this is not an emo post. It's sort of a sad week for me and my favorite series since most of them are airing or have aired their season finales this week. Though I bet I'll be more productive in the absence of my favorite shows since I'll be spending less time downloading and staring at utorrent, waiting for them to finish.

2 Broke Girls

A serendipitous find on Twitter. I really like Kat Dennings (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, Thor) and I think she is reason enough to watch this series, but I ended up also liking Beth Behrs's character, Caroline Channing. Max Black (Dennings) is just too vulgar for me, IMHO. Oh yes, the prude in me strikes again. Haha.

I enjoy watching this because it is a story of two girls trying to make it in business- somewhat similar to what I am doing, only I am, technically, on my own. Well, it's just we're rooting for them to make it. Plus, it was fun to watch how Max and Caroline's friendship developed.

Max & Caroline in their usual garb...
man, they clean up nice :) i love this episode because Kat Dennings looked so beautiful here
It was a nice season finale although it didn't quite left us hanging, just hoping that Martha will do them good :)

New Girl

I first fell in love with Zoey Deschanel's adorkable-ness when I watched 500 Days of Summer and thanks to New Girl, I can watch her adorkable-ness on a weekly basis.

New Girl is always a fun watch, except those with Justin Long in them. This season, I liked how Schmidt ended up with Cece and although my bet, Jess and Nick, didn't happen, I know it eventually will.

Hart of Dixie

My favorite of favorites! I know, I know, it's not really what you'd a good drama, story-wise but I love Rachel Bilson and I love the Zoe + Wade + George triangle. Ay, make it a pentagon pala: Zoe- Wade- George- Lemon- Lavon.

Initially, I thought Zoe would be torn among the three- George, Wae and Lavon, but now it's pretty clear that Lavon's role in Zoe's life is like an older brother. And I think the Lavon-Lemon affair is just brilliant, cos it shows Lemon's other side. We all know that Lemon's sort of uptight, self-righteous and goody-goody, but her affair with Lavon shows otherwise. For a small town like Bluebell, they always say that it's impossible to keep a secret so I'm wondering how they were able to keep the affair secret.

George vs. Wade. Personally, I haven't made my mind yet. I like George but I also like Wade. My sister is Team Wade through and through. It's just that if I were Zoe, George is cute, nice, intelligent - he's the complete package!- and just like a shiny, red apple- you just gotta have it. With Wade, he's cute and it's cute how he crushes on Zoe. But really, can you blame Zoe for going for George over Wade? Hindi rin naman ako nasisilaw ng abs eh, haha

ooh, abs ;)
We've kinda sensed the "tension" between Wade and Zoe, it's just that Zoe's too focused on George to notice Wade. But then again Wade already had his chance but he let his chance just pass him by. But really, it's just cute how he's all hurt and jealous over Zoe liking George.

Personally, I think George should've called off the wedding when he found out about Lemon's affair. But since he chose to not go with it only minutes away from the wedding, the burden of proof is on him. And if ever he ends up with Zoe, Zoe will be forever hated for breaking up Bluebell's golden couple. Bluebell will never know that Lemon had an affair with Lavon; they will only know that George broke it off because of Zoe.

masaya si Papa Wade
pero mukhang panalo pa rin si Papa George
Omigaaahd, Zoe, ikaw na!

I love it. I really like George but I don't know if I want them together-together. I think what I like is the SO (secret on) going on, haha. Kawawa nga si Wade but I guess he should have done better with his speech at the barn. Yes, he scored but can he keep the goal?

And oh, it's official- second season for Hart of Dixie's happening :)

to be continued...

days like these

Feeling like this last week pa. My positivity chuva isn't working either. I never thought I'd feel so--- alone. Shet,  nakanangemo ko. Pero promise, I feel shitty.

If I were a cartoon character, I'd be Garfield. Aside from Helga, that is. I think I am a cross between Helga G. Pataki and Garfield. I'm a hostile, fat cat.

This Janis Ian song sort of summarizes how I feel now~

On days like these
When the rain won't fall
And the sky is so dry
That even birds can't call

I promised myself I'd watch Dawson's Creek all over again... and wallow in self-pity. I DL'd almost every DC song I could find and most of them were emo-ish. Buti na lang hindi umuulan ngayon, kundi perfect condition for sulking na ito. I know this too shall pass... We all have these moments.

But you can't reap what you don't sow
And you can't plant in fallow ground
So let us fill this empty earth with hope
Until the rains come down
I can make my peace
With days like these

Frakkit. I'll go watch New Girl na nga lang for feel-good vibes.

kdama: dream high

Hey, I'm on a roll! Meeting up with Jing has definitely ignited once again my Kpop obsession. There's  Dream High in her stash and within a Kpop minute, I'm done with all 16 hours of it.

Dream High reminds me of Fame. Actually, it is Fame, Kpop edition. I have yet to see Fame (both 1980 and 2009 versions) but I think it was about youngsters who were working towards their dream. The story is focused on four characters: Hye-mi, Baek-hee, Jin-guk and Sam-dong.

Hye-mi was trained in classical music and was supposed to attend Juilliard School in New York but due to financial constraints, she was forced to study and train locally in Kirin Art School. She auditioned together with her best friend, Baek-hee, who back then was also her #1 fan and would follow her around everywhere! Because Hye-mi was too proud and too full of herself, she gave off a negative vibe with the admission panel. Although she was undoubtedly talented, she didn't pass the auditions. Baek-hee bargained on behalf of her friend- either both of them go to Kirin or she won't go at all. Hye-mi doesn't feel the same and said some things that hurt Baek-hee. To cut the story short, that was the end of their friendship.

Mr. Kang was supposedly to be fired by the board but Bae Yong Jun's character saved his ass and gave him the responsibility of finding three, very talented kids: Go Hye-mi, Jin-guk and Song Sam-dong. The three belonged to the Half-Admissions Class and were treated differently by the entire Kirin Art School community. I don't know why they're called Half-Admissions Class, but belonging there they were treated as second-class citizens. They weren't allowed to use school facilities and were not given the same privileges and opportunities the other students have.

But with perseverance and determination (at pamamaraan) and a stroke of luck, they were able to hurdle the challenges. And in a year's time, they were all changed, better persons.

What I love about this drama is it starts with a question: Who is K?

Among the 4 lead characters, one of them eventually makes it to Hollywood and is the first Korean singer to win a Grammy. The K pendant was originally Bae Yong Jun's character's then he gave it to Baek-hee as a token or anting-anting to help her in her endeavor of reaching her dream. Then it eventually became a lucky charm that one passes to another who needs it at that time- yes, a la Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

What I also like is the love angle. Of course, hindi mawawala yan. In hindsight, I didn't get too kilig over it. There's just the question of who Hye-mi will choose: Jin-guk or Sam-dong. Personally, I am Team Sam-dong because he's just adorable. I find him adorable. Kahit minsan masungit.

I also like Hye-mi.

Ikaw, sino bet mo?

It was bitin but I like it. I hear there's Dream High 2 but I am not interested.

good read

In our aim to live life to the fullest without spreading oneself too thin, here's an article which I think might be of help.

Let's go!

RT 2012 book 7: brida

When you find your path, you must not be afraid.
You need to have sufficient courage to make mistakes.
Disappointment, defeat and despair are the tools God
uses to show us the way.

This may be the last time I am going to read a book by Paulo Coelho. I say "may be" because who knows, he might write a new novel that is to my liking. So far, I've read 6½ of his books: The Alchemist, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept, Like the Flowing River, El Zahir, Eleven Minutes, Brida and the ½ is Veronika Decides to Die which I didn't finish.

The very first Paulo Coelho book I read was The Alchemist and while a lot of people gushed about it, I didn't like it. I was 15 years old at that time and I was spending the summer vacation in the province and that was before the heyday of cable TV and dibidis, so I brought a book with me to pass the time. I struggled reading it and thought it was boring but I saw through it because I learned to be matiyaga with books cos sometimes may redeeming factor in the end (as with Ha Jin's The Waiting). I compare The Alchemist with a Tagalog saying, "sa hinahaba-haba ng prusisyon, sa simbahan din ang tuloy," and do you know the feeling that you're watching this movie then the bida wakes up at the end of the movie and realizes it was all a dream... you feel as if you've been duped, right? That was what I felt after finishing the novel. So here I am 15 years later with my fifth book and after finishing the novel, all I can say was, "Pangit."

Brida is this young woman who is curious about magic, witchcraft, etc. and she seeks the help of the Magus and Wicca. The Magus sees Brida and recognizes (by the light in her eyes, naks! aura ata or something) her as his Soul Mate. When a soul dies daw, it is divided into two: a man and a woman and upon reincarnation, these two parts of the soul are your so-called "Soul Mates." Sometimes, it happens that a person has two soul mates and that is the hardest part- to choose just one.

Brida also reminded me of a Filipino movie, Tatarin, based on a short story, The Summer Solstice, by Nick Joaquin. No, haven't read the short story nor have I seen the movie but I saw the trailer back them when they were promoting the movie and that scene was what came to mind when I was reading about the witches' sabbath chuva, yung may hubad portion.

Yada, yada, yada.

For me, the redeeming factor of the book was the quotable quotes. Haha.
She feared pain, loss and separation. These things were inevitable on the path to love. And the only way of avoiding them was by deciding not to take that path at all. In order not to suffer, you need to renounce it.
And this one reminds me of a Savage Garden song...
And yet no one life is the same as any other life. It might be that we will never meet again, and I need you to know that I've loved you even before I met you. You're part of me.
So parang naiinis ako sa twists and turns (or lack thereof) ng books ni Coelho. Of the 6½ books, I only liked River Piedra and Like the Flowing River (dahil sa quotes). I think I'll be reading River Piedra again to find out exactly why I liked it and what sets it apart from the other Coelho books. My profe in Spanish actually said that Coelho should thank the guy who translates his books to English because it was a good translation, even better than the original. My profe claims that Coelho's books in its original language don't sell as much as the ones translated in English. I dunno how true that is but personally, most of his books are just not my type.

And to end this quasi-review aka bashing, here's another quote:
Accept what life offers you and try to drink from every cup. All wines should be tasted; some should only be sipped, but with others, drink the whole bottle. You can only know a good one if you have first tasted a bad one.
(And that's why I know Brida is a bad book because I've read so many good ones already :P)

fangirling

Met up with Jing yesterday to return her stash ( Korean series DVDs!). It was hitting two birds na rin with one stone since I had some errands to run then I could meet up with Jing after.

Omigosh, it feels so good to be able to talk to someone who can understand what your saying. Jing and I are both Korean entertainment fans. Well, I'm not really that hardcore anymore as I was 7 years ago, while she is still at the height of her fandom, haha. Sabi nga niya, old school yung mga gusto ko na music at artists.

We talked for two hours about our favorite series and bands and singers. Omigosh, fangirling much? Haha. Siempre I shared with her some of my favorite dramas which I think she should see. Most of those dramas were from 7-8 years ago, yung iba nga nag-suicide na yung mga bida, but she must see them!

Like Phoenix/ Firebird (Bul Sae), for example~

Lee Eun-joo has been dead for seven years now but man, I still recommend this series to anyone who likes Korean dramas. I'm not a fan of heavy dramas but I swear this one is super duper good. Saw this one eons ago but I can still remember my favorite scene: when psychotic Mi-ran held Sae-hoon hostage and she was lamenting on how she loves him so much. Mi-ran threw something into the aquarium which shattered it into thousands of glass shards, then Mi-ran walked on the shards and told Sae-hoon, "You think this hurts? This is nothing compared to what my heart is feeling right now," or something to that effect. Ouch. Ahlavet. Others found that scene scary but I just find it beautiful. Maybe I really am psychotic. Ha.

So that was just one of the dramas I recommended for her to watch. She also recommended a lot of dramas for me to see: Brilliant Legacy (Shining Inheritance), The Greatest Love, Rooftop Prince and The Moon that Embraces the Sun. I'm not too fond of period dramas but maybe I'll give it a try. I'm watching Dream High now and I'm on the last two episodes already. Gaaahd, I watch too much TV talaga.

I'm missing my old-school dramas (Winter Sonata, FTW!) and laslas-pulso music

Staiway to Heaven's Bogoshipda. Omigaahd, I can sing to this song with feelings pa~ Joogeul mankeum bogoshipda ( I miss you to death)!!! I love love love this song ♥

Bae Yong-joon circa 2000 kopong-kopong... with less "enhancements." Never found Bae Yong-joon gwapo unlike my AB but I think she likes BYJ because he's "ma-ugat." Haha.

At may Ye Sha pa daw. Kaloka.
